Entrepreneurship & Leadership: Building a Business Through People and Community with Matt Estrin
What does it take to turn a passion into a thriving business and continue growing as an entrepreneur along the way? In this episode of Make Your Passion Pay, I sit down with Matt Estrin, entrepreneur, author, and founder and CEO of 477 Distilling, to talk about entrepreneurship, leadership, core values, community, creativity, and the lessons that come from building businesses firsthand. After spending 15 years as a pastor, Matt felt a growing pull toward a new passion. That journey led him into distilling and eventually sparked an even greater passion for entrepreneurship. Over the past several years, he has launched seven businesses and discovered how much he loves creating businesses, developing people, and encouraging fellow entrepreneurs. One of Matt’s biggest lessons is the importance of getting out into your community. Building relationships, becoming a familiar face, participating in networking organizations, serving on boards, and supporting local causes have all played a meaningful role in growing his businesses. His philosophy is simple: the more your community knows, likes, and trusts you, the more opportunities you create for people to support your business. We also explore how Matt’s core values guide his businesses. His teams focus on serving people, supporting the community, and embracing creativity. These values shape the customer experience while giving employees opportunities to contribute their ideas, use their talents, and take ownership of their work. In this episode, you’ll discover: How passion can evolve into a new entrepreneurial path Why community involvement can support business growth How core values guide leadership and company culture Ways networking and relationship building create business opportunities How empowering your team develops stronger leaders Why creativity and collaboration strengthen the customer experience How working on your business creates greater freedom for the owner Why people, purpose, and persistence are powerful parts of entrepreneurship Matt shares a great example of team empowerment through the creative process at 477 Distilling. His employees collaborate to develop new cocktail menus, with team members contributing their own creations. Giving his people opportunities to lead and create allows their talents to shine while giving Matt more time to build relationships throughout his community. This conversation is a great reminder that business success reaches far beyond a great product or service. People, relationships, community, creativity, and intentional leadership can create the foundation for a business that grows and makes a meaningful impact. Tune in for an energizing conversation about entrepreneurship, small business growth, leadership development, company culture, networking, community involvement, and turning your passion into a business you love.
