Life can feel loud, messy, and just plain too much. I’m Susan Raynor—pastor’s wife, current homeschooling mama, and writer at makinmacon.com—offering real, faith-filled encouragement for women juggling marriage, motherhood, homemaking, and ministry. This podcast is a space to breathe again: honest stories, biblical truth, and gentle reminders that you’re not alone, and you’re not failing. You don’t have to hold everything together—Jesus already is. Let’s walk this out together.
Why Would God Choose Me? Learning to Walk Humbly in God’s Calling
Have you ever looked at the calling God has placed on your life and quietly wondered, “Lord…why me?”
In this episode of Makin’ Macon: Encouragement in Chaos, we’re continuing our conversation about the life of David and discovering that God doesn’t call us because we have it all together. Long before David became king, God was shaping his heart—and when the calling finally came, it wasn’t because David was the strongest or the most qualified. It was because God saw something deeper.
I’ll also share a personal story about learning to play the piano before my husband and I moved to our first home missions church, and how the Lord was preparing me for a season I never saw coming. Looking back, I realize God wasn’t simply teaching me a new skill—He was teaching me to depend on Him.
If you’ve ever felt inadequate, unqualified, or wondered if you’re enough for what God has asked you to do, I hope this episode reminds you of one simple truth:
God doesn’t call us because we are enough. He calls us because He never intended for us to do it without Him.

The Shepherd in the Field: Learning to Seek God’s Heart
Before David was ever a king, he was a shepherd faithfully serving in a quiet field where very few people ever noticed him. Yet while others overlooked him, God was shaping a heart that would one day lead a nation.

If you’ve ever felt overlooked, wondered if your ordinary faithfulness matters, or quietly asked, “Lord, do You really see me?”—this conversation is for you.
Join me as we look at the story of David, the importance of seeking God’s heart, and the reminder that God isn’t just preparing us for what He has called us to do—He’s preparing our hearts for who He has called us to be.

Protecting Your Time with God: Choosing What Matters Most
Have you ever found yourself praying while driving to work, worshipping while making dinner, or whispering a tired prayer before you fall asleep—only to wonder if it was enough?
In this episode of Makin’ Macon: Encouragement in Chaos, I’m sharing what God taught me during some of the busiest seasons of my life. There were years when balancing work, motherhood, ministry, and everyday responsibilities left me longing for more time with Him. I kept waiting for life to slow down, only to discover that if I wanted time with God, I would have to intentionally protect it.
Together, we’ll look at Psalm 42:1-2, where David writes, “As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.” We’ll also reflect on the example Jesus gave us in Mark 1:35 and Luke 5:16, reminding us that time with the Father isn’t one more thing on our to-do list—it’s the very thing that gives us strength for everything else.
If you’ve ever felt guilty because your quiet time doesn’t look the way you think it should, I hope this conversation encourages you. God sees the little moments, but He also invites us to protect the relationship that sustains us through every season.
