What Cop27 means for climate change in the Global South?
World leaders struggle to agree on climate responsibilities while the poorest regions bear the brunt of climate change. Ironically, those least responsible for global warming suffer the most. Droughts in Africa, floods in South Asia, and rising sea levels in places like Barbados pose significant threats to developing nations. ‘Loss and damage’ is a key issue at Cop27. Why do we start Making Waves?
The climate crisis is a water crisis. Even a relatively small temperature increase can have a significant impact on the water cycle – droughts and floods become more severe and frequent. That’s why we need to understand the water challenges and come up with solutions. Joep Janssen started Nextblue, a storytelling platform about water, to empower the voices of communities in the heart of delta regions around the world. He is trying to build a community of people who, like you, share common views on the urgent need to tackle the water crisis.
