Two Malazan fanboys, Danylo and Mc (hosts of the Hardcover Hooligans podcast), have somehow convinced their life partners, Shelby and Sarah, to read the Malazan Book of the Fallen, one of the most notoriously dense, difficult, and violent fantasy series of all time.
In a twist that’s shocking to absolutely no one, Shelby and Sarah hated the book, while Danylo and Mc enjoyed it.
But this episode is not just a ‘Gardens of the Moon’ dunk-fest! The book stimulated some great discussion about what we look for in books and stories, what we like and don’t like in the fantasy genre, where the series goes next, and why Shelby thought that K’rul should’ve had laser eyes.
