黄色墙纸：第二章（2）
<p>透过其中一扇窗户，我能看见花园，那些被植物覆盖的神秘凉亭，生长茂盛的传统花卉、灌木丛和枝桠弯曲的树木。<br /></p><p>透过另外一扇窗户，我看见美丽的海湾和属于这座府邸的小型私人码头。有一条清新的绿荫小道连接着房子和码头那里。我总是幻想有人在那些条小路上、凉亭里行走，但约翰提醒我不要被幻想支配。他说，以我的想象力和编故事的习惯，类似这样的精神问题肯定会引发兴奋幻想的行为，我应该用意志和理智去检查一下这种倾向。所以我试着这样做。<br /></p><p>有时我会想，如果我的精神能好到可以写一点点东西，那将会缓解我繁杂的想法，并让我得到休息。<br /></p><p>但当我试着照约翰说的做时，又会觉得很疲惫。<br /></p><p>我写的东西没有收到任何看法和支持，这让我很沮丧。约翰说，当我恢复得足够好时，会请表亲亨利和朱莉娅来长住一段时日。但是就现在来说，他情愿在我的枕头里放烟火，也不要让我和会刺激到我的人接触。<br /></p><p>我希望我能快点好起来。<br /></p><p>但我不能去想这一点。这墙纸在我看来，似乎知道它对我造成的恶劣影响！<br /></p><p>有一处地方的图案，怎么看都像是它耷拉着断了的脖子和两只灯泡般的眼睛，倒立着盯你看。<br /></p><p>它的粗鲁和不间断的凝视显然让我生气。它们在上下左右爬行，那些滑稽的、眨都不眨的眼睛无处不在。有一处的迹象对不上，两只眼睛一个在线条上方，一个在下方。<br /></p><p>我从未在无生命的物体上见过如此多的表情，我们都知道它们是多么多！小时候，我会躺着看空白的墙壁，从中体会到的乐趣和恐惧，比大部分儿童在玩具店时都要多。<br /></p>

黄色墙纸：第二章（1）
<p>我们在这里住了有两星期，之前的时间里，我都没有想要写作。<br /></p><p>我现在已经下床，坐在这间糟糕的育婴房中靠窗的位置，并且没有任何事情可以妨碍我写作，更别说体力了。<br /></p><p>约翰今天不在，甚至有些晚上并不住在这里，因为他要处理的病例比较棘手。<br /></p><p>我庆幸我的症状并不棘手！<br /></p><p>但这些精神问题让我非常压抑。<br /></p><p>约翰并不知道我痛苦的程度。他知道我没有理由痛苦，他很放心。<br /></p><p>当然，这只是精神压力罢了。但让我苦恼的是我没法完成我的任务了！<br /></p><p>我指的是给约翰减轻负担，让自己得到充分的休息和舒适，而现在的我已经算是一个负担了！<br /></p><p>没人会相信我做的那些小事是需要付出的，比如梳妆打扮、款待客人、订购东西等等。<br /></p><p>幸好玛丽很会照顾婴儿。我亲爱的宝贝！<br /></p><p>但我还不能和婴儿待一起，这会让我焦虑。<br /></p><p>我猜约翰这辈子从不会焦虑。他因为墙纸这事笑话我！<br /></p><p>起初他想要给房间重新糊上墙纸，但后来他说这会影响我恢复健康，对于一个焦虑的患者来说，没有什么比屈服于幻想更糟糕了。<br /></p><p>他说，就算是换了墙纸，接着又会是笨重的床架，然后是有栅栏的窗户，然后是楼梯口的门，然后是别的东西。<br /></p><p>“你知道这地方是对你好的”，他说，“而且实话说，我并不想为了只租三个月的房子重新装修。”<br /></p><p>“那我们就搬到楼下吧”，我说，“那里的房间更好。”<br /></p><p>然后他就搂着我，叫我上天保佑的小傻瓜，并说，如果我希望搬到楼下的话，他会去地下室，并把那儿粉刷一遍。<br /></p><p>但他说对了关于床、窗户还有别的。<br /></p><p>这是一间大家都想要的、通风良好且舒适的房间，所以，我不能为了一时的念头蠢到让约翰不高兴。<br /></p><p>我真的开始喜欢上这个大房间了，除了那恐怖的墙纸。<br /></p>

黄色墙纸：第一章（3）
<p>他说，我们搬来这里全是为了我好，我需要充分休息，多呼吸空气。“亲爱的，你的运动量取决于你的体力，你的饭量取决于你的胃口，而空气则是随时都可以吸入。”因此我们挑了顶楼的育婴房作为卧室。<br /></p><p>这是一间通风的大房间，几乎占据了一整层，四周都是窗户、空气和充足的光照。我猜，它本来是育婴房，后来用作了游戏室和健身房。因为窗户都装有阻挡小孩的铁栏杆，墙上有吊环和一些运动设施。<br /></p><p>而涂料和墙纸像是男子学校曾经用过的。墙纸被剥落，在我的床头碎成片状，是我刚好够得着的距离，在房间另一头的墙角也有这样的墙纸。我这辈子从未见过这么破烂不堪的墙纸。<br /></p><p>那些四散的令人瞩目的图案中，有一个犯下了艺术审美上所有的忌讳。<br /></p><p>它无趣到连眼睛都不愿凝视，显眼到一直刺激和引人研究，当你从一定距离观察它那蹩脚的、不确定的曲线时，那些线条会突然间自杀——从难以容忍的角度陡然跳下，以骇人听闻的矛盾毁灭自己。<br /></p><p>它的颜色令我反感到作呕的地步；缓慢燃烧的脏黄色，在阳光慢慢变幻角度时，诡异地变淡。<br /></p><p>在有些区域，它是无趣又俗不可耐的橙色，而在别的地方是难看的硫磺色。<br /></p><p>怪不得孩子们讨厌它！要是我在这间屋子待上很久的时间，我也会讨厌的。<br /></p><p>约翰来了，我必须把笔和纸藏起来，他讨厌我写作。<br /></p>
