EP 19 | The Future of Research, Trust and Higher Education
In this episode of the Marketing for Good podcast, we speak with Professor Rebekah Russell-Bennett, Associate Dean (Research) in the Faculty of Business, Government and Law at the University of Canberra.
An internationally recognised expert in social marketing and behaviour change, Rebekah led the development of her Faculty's new research strategy, Patient and Purposeful — an approach that prioritises thoughtful, impactful research, giving academics the time and space to experiment and innovate rather than focusing solely on the rapid production of research publications.
Rebekah discusses the challenges of measuring research impact, the importance of building trust through transparent leadership, and how universities can better position themselves in an increasingly competitive landscape.
Together, we explore:
Rebekah's career journey from marketing management to academia
The leadership principles that have shaped her career
Why trust, transparency and curiosity matter in research and higher education
How universities can differentiate themselves through strategic marketing
The opportunities and challenges AI presents for higher education
Whether you are an academic, researcher, marketer or business leader, this conversation offers valuable insights into creating meaningful research, leading with purpose and preparing for the future of higher education.

Ep 18 | Redefining success: How to navigate complex sustainability-related projects
In this episode of the Marketing for Good podcast, we speak with two senior leaders from Rennie Advisory – Nicole Meacock and Georgine Duncan – about what it really takes to deliver successful sustainability outcomes in an increasingly complex world.
Rennie is a specialist advisory firm that helps organisations navigate the defining transitions of our time, including energy, climate and society, to create long-term value and sustainable outcomes. Nicole Meacock, Director of Economics Reform and Sustainability and Georgine Duncan, Executive Director, sit at the intersection of sustainability-related strategy, risk, investment, economics, and policy reform.
Together, they share their insights on why many sustainability and energy transition projects face community backlash, despite being financially and technically sound.
In this episode, we explore:
The barriers affecting the success of sustainability initiatives and projects
The evolving role of ESG, double materiality, impact modelling and responsible investment to improve decision making before projects
What it means to have ‘sustainable success’ to ensure profit and purpose can build resilience, manage risk and create lasting value
The shift in investor expectations toward responsible investment decision-making
This conversation offers a masterclass in earning genuine trust with communities to secure social license. It is ideal for business leaders in the energy transition sector and beyond who want to maintain success throughout their projects.
