Season 2 Episode 6 - Chris Bailey - Part 1
This week I am excited to welcome journalist Chris Bailey to Maybe In Another Generation.
Chris spent 10 years as City’s Chief Correspondent at the Manchester Evening News, before getting the transfer of his dreams to Manchester City, where he became Editor in Chief, and continues to have the honour of sitting down with Khaldoon Al Mubarak at the end of each season. Chris joins us to talk about what it was like having a front row seat for all the drama that unfolded at Maine Rd and the Etihad, between 1999 and 2021.
In the first half of this 2 parter, Chris talks us through his early life following City home and away in the 70’s and 80’s before starting on the path to journalism that took him to the Evening News and reporting on 4 managers, 2 promotions, 1 relegation, 2 takeovers and saying goodbye to Maine Rd.

Season 2 Episode 5 - Liam Wright - 2012/2013
This week, we welcome back Liam Wright who, having been to 49 of the 52 games of this particular season, is perfectly placed to help us sift through the wreckage of the now infamous 2012/2013 season.
Having won their first league title in 44 years in dramatic fashion, could City continue their march to domination of English football? Or would a lack of truly world class signings and in-fighting within the corridors of the Etihad, de-rail the blues ambitions?

Season 2 Episode 4 - Dom Farrell - 2021/22 Season.
This week, we welcome back journalist and author Dom Farrell to Maybe In Another Generation as he helps us walk through a season that despite it's dramatic and quite brilliant conclusion, often sits in the shadow of other Pep seasons.
We join the chat in the summer of 2021 with City having wrestled back their Premier League champions crown from Liverpool but falling at the final hurdle of the Champions League in Port v Chelsea.
Will the disappointment of not getting their key target, Harry Kane, disrupt the blues in their quest for back to back titles? And is this the season we finally win that elusive Champions League.

Season 2 Episode 3 - Bill Borrows - "I refused to interview any Utd players"
This week, something a little bit different!
We’ll be speaking to life long Blue, journalist and author Bill Borrows.
We talk to Bill about his love of City growing up in Manchester in the 70's and how writing for City fanzines in the late 80”s started his path to journalism at The Sunday Times, Guardian, TalkSport, Goal and 90 minutes.
Bill also tells us about his refusal to interview United players, seeing Peter Swales in the toilet just moments after selling City to Franny Lee and becoming Editor at large of the groundbreaking Loaded - the magazine that provided the backdrop to the 90’s, and about his brand new podcast ExpLoaded.

Welcome back to Maybe In Another Generation and what an episode to kick off Season 2!
We’re heading back 37 years, where I’m joined by Mark McCarthy who’ll walk us through one of my favourites - the 88/89 season.
Aswell as Mark’s recollections of inflatables, journeyman signings and trying our best to not get promoted, Mark will be talking us through how he ended up with the biggest ever collection of matchworn City shirts and the 3 books that followed.
Having had one failed attempt at promotion and selling star striker Paul Stewart, can the Blues go up at the second time of asking?

Episode 8 - FG - 2010/11 Season
The season that changed everything…
In this last episode of Season 1, we welcome none other than Faraaz Ghaffur, better known to you and I as FG, as he chats about the history-defining 2010/11 season. The season that saw City aim to finally taste glory after 35 long years in the wilderness…
We also talk to FG about how a lad watching City home and away with his mates would go on to present for the club’s own TV channel and end up with almost 1.5 million followers across his social media platforms.
After a summer that saw City spend heavily on players that would go on to be amongst our greatest ever, could this expensively assembled squad, finally help the Blues “tear that banner down”?

Episode 7 - Simon Curtis - 1983/84 Season
It’s 80’s week!
This week I’m delighted to speak to journalist and author of the brilliant ‘City In Europe’, Simon Curtis who takes us for a walk down misery lane to the 1983/84 season.
Simon talks us through the sights, sounds and fashions of the early 80’s and what life was like supporting City home and away against the backdrop of hooliganism.
Having been relegated in heartbreaking style, City find themselves in the 2nd Division with a new manager in the form of Billy McNeill, a rag tag squad of bargain basement signings and ever crippling debts. Can City make it back to the First Division against the odds?

Episode 6 - Dom Farrell - 2001/02 Season
This week we re-live one of the most entertaining seasons in our history, and one that lives long in the memory of many Blues.
It’s the 2001/02 season and this week, I am delighted to be joined by journalist, author and City fan of over 30 years, Dom Farrell.
We join the club in the summer of 2001, having sacked Joe Royle following relegation from the Premier League, amidst rumours of a drinking culture within the playing squad.
The appointment of former Newcastle & England Manager Kevin Keegan as the replacement for Royle was a huge coup for the Blues. Could Keegan and his brand of swashbuckling football lead City to a swift return to the top flight?

Episode 5 - Jack Mitchell - 1990/91 Season
This week we head back to the 1990/91 season with the help of Jack Mitchell - drummer for fellow blue, Johnny Marr, collector of match worn City memorabilia and City fan since 1988.
Having avoided relegation in the previous season, City start the 90/91 campaign in confident mood, having strengthened the squad with the million pound signing of goalkeeper Tony Coton to compliment the blend of young talent and experienced Everton old boys at their disposal.
Under the stewardship of the much sought after Howard Kendall, the Blues were tipped to be one of the dark horses of the season…
But nothing's ever that simple, is it?

The 1998/99 season!

City start the season at their lowest ebb, having been relegated to the third tier of English football.
But, with one of the most respected managers in the country at the helm, and a squad containing a mix of experienced and young talented players, surely an immediate return to Division 1 was just a formality?

Episode 2 - Liam Wright - 2007/08 season
This week, I am delighted to be chatting to Liam Wright, who has followed City home and away, week in, week out for the last 20 years.
Liam walks us through the 2007/08 season. One of the more bizarre seasons in City’s history, where we start the season with 8 new signings, a new manager and a new owner.
Hopes were high following the trauma of the previous Stuart Pearce season.
What could possibly go wrong...?

Episode 1 - Dr. Gary James - 1984/85 season
For our first ever episode of 'Maybe In Another Generation', I had the absolute pleasure of sitting down with the number one Manchester City historian, Gary James.
There's a good chance that if you support Manchester City, you'll own at least one of his books.
He has written extensively on City since 1989, including Maine Men To Banana Citizens, Manchester, the Greatest City, and Farewell to Maine Road, aswell as the authorised history of Manchester Corinthians Ladies Football Club, and the authorised biographies of Joe Mercer, and Peter Barnes.
We walk through the highs and lows of 1984/85 season, culminating in that special day against Charlton Athletic. Gary also talks us through some of his away day experiences, against the backdrop of mounting football violence, and also how he went from a teenager on the terraces, to become a renowned author of over 20 books.
