<p>סיפורו של מלכה השישי של רומא הנו אחד הסיפורים המוזרים והמופלאים ביותר בתולדות האימפריה. הוא מתחיל בסיפורו של בנה של שפחה ושמו סרוויוס טוליוס.</p> <p>בן המשרתים גדל לשרת את המלך ואשתו, למד את גינוני המלכות השונים והיה לאדם מוכשר וחכם אשר הצליח בכל מעשה ידיו.</p> <p>ואמנם, בן משרתים פשוט יכול להיות למלך על רומא?</p>

<p>לוקיוס טארקוויניוס פריסקוס היה בן לאחת המשפחות העשירות מקרב האטרוסקים, אויביה המושבעים של רומא. כשהגיע עם אשתו טנקוויל לרומא, התחבב מאד על המלך הרומאי אנכוס מארקיוס והפך לידידו הקרוב והשומר האישי של ילדיו הקטנים. גם חברי הסנאט ברומא חיבבו את לוקיוס ואת הכסף הרב שתרם להם. כך, כאשר מת לבסוף אנכוס מאקריוס, שני ילדיו היו קטנים מכדי לשלוט ברומא ולכן פנה הסנאט אל לוקיוס טארקוויניוס פריסקוס. לטובתה של רומא, כך אמרו, ראוי שהוא יקבל את השלטון, ולא אף אחד מבניו הצעירים של מארקיוס.</p>
