Pregnancy and Overheating: Fever, Hot Tubs, and What to Do
The hot-tub sign is really saying “don’t overheat.” That covers a fever, a sauna, and a hot day, and it doesn’t mean the same thing at 6 weeks as it does at 35.Early on, a high core temperature is the exposure linked to neural tube defects. Later, a fever mostly tells you how sick you are. Hot tubs are the special case because you’re submerged and can’t sweat the heat off. Zika was the virus, not the fever. If you’re pregnant and febrile, treat it — acetaminophen is the one ACOG points to. Talk to your OB before you take anything.

Fact Checking Elon Musk: Do Video Games Make You Smarter?
Elon posted “play video games or be dumb.” The viral number under it was 13.7 years younger. I played DotA in med school and WoW after that, so of course people sent it to me. Then I read the actual paper.
What the 2025 PLOS One study (Brain & Body / Western University) actually did:923 adults. One snapshot. Survey + 12 online brain tasks. Not a trial that assigned a game.“Frequent gamer” in the published paper = 3+ hours a week, any genre. Infrequent = under 3.Frequent gamers scored higher on short-term memory, reasoning, processing speed, and the overall composite. Verbal did not move.Reasoning: the frequent vs infrequent gap. Speed climbed with hours. Memory: any play helped, then flattened.Same paper, other half: exercise did not move those cognitive scores. It did track with better depression/anxiety screens.About 70% of the sample already hit 150 minutes a week. Not the basement-dwelling stereotype.Cross-sectional. Chicken and egg. Maybe games sharpen you. Maybe sharper people pick games. The study cannot point the arrow. The 13.7-year line is from 2024 press on the preprint. The final paper kept the score gap and dropped the birthday.Paper: https://journals.plos.org/plosone/art... The Indian Officer Raiding Dirty Restaurants | Delhi Belly, Typhoid & Food Poisoning
CDC says travelers have a 60%+ chance of diarrhea on a 2-week trip to India. In this video I explore the pathogens (disease causing things) and the bureaucrat actually doing something about the kitchens.Tukaram Mundhe is an IAS officer (Indian Administrative Service — appointed after one of the hardest exams on earth). In 3 months as Maharashtra’s FDA chief he ran 3,000+ inspections and pulled licenses from Pizza Hut, McDonald’s, and places that usually don’t get touched. Then the illnesses Americans actually need to know:• Salmonella ≠ typhoid. Salmonella Enteritidis vs Salmonella Typhi - Two different bugs. Stop focusing on Eggs.• Typhoid Mary story from early 1900s• Typhoid vaccine: shot or pills• E. coli — most traveler’s diarrhea / “Delhi Belly” (and “Bali Belly”)• Campylobacter, Shigella, Giardia and a few others are mentioned.Foodborne illness is a systems failure: kitchens, water, cold chain, hands, licenses that actually get pulled. Not medical advice. Bloody diarrhea, high fever, or weeks of symptoms = see a doctor.#DelhiBelly (https://www.youtube.com/hashtag/delhibelly) #FoodSafety (https://www.youtube.com/hashtag/foodsafety) #TukaramMundhe (https://www.youtube.com/hashtag/tukarammundhe) #TravelersDiarrhea (https://www.youtube.com/hashtag/travelersdiarrhea)
