The Gospel of John and The Synoptics: Things Omitted
The Gospel of John intentionally omits many features and events common to the Synoptic Gospels—such as the detailed accounts of Jesus’ birth and childhood, the wilderness temptation, parables, the Transfiguration, and the institution of the Lord’s Supper—not by oversight or contradiction, but by the Spirit’s design to serve John’s purpose of leading readers to believe that Jesus is the Christ. Where the Synoptics emphasize public ministry, kingdom parables, and eschatological discourses, John supplies alternative parallel statements and unique material that affirm the same truths about our Lord. In John 14:1-4 this design is clear as Jesus comforts His troubled disciples with the sure promise that He goes to prepare a place and will come again to receive them to Himself—the blessed hope of the Parousia.

The Gospel of John and The Synoptics: Things Shared
While the Gospel of John differs significantly in style and content from the Synoptic Gospels, it shares a substantial core of historical events and teachings with Matthew, Mark, and Luke that together form a unified apostolic witness to Jesus Christ. Shared elements include John the Baptist’s ministry, the feeding of the five thousand, Jesus walking on the water, the triumphal entry, the anointing at Bethany, and the essential outline of the passion narrative (betrayal, arrest, trial before Pilate, crucifixion, and resurrection). From a conservative biblical perspective, these commonalities demonstrate the historical reliability of the Gospels and the Spirit-inspired complementarity of the fourfold witness rather than any contradiction or independent invention.

Gospel Profiles: Luke
Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John are not competing myths but complementary eyewitness testimony, and Luke writes as a careful compiler of that testimony. He presents a historical account of Jesus as the fulfillment of God’s promises, a praying Savior who brings joy to the lowly and walks the appointed road to the cross so that we can know the exact truth -- the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
