Messy and Serene is a podcast for women in the messy middle, where real-life experiences are acknowledged, emotions are validated, and you’re reminded that you’re not alone or behind. It’s a space for real conversations about life, faith, trauma, healing, and the seasons that shape us while we’re still in them. Because two things can be true: life can be messy, and it can be serene. Follow along here: https://linktr.ee/messyandserene or on TikTok and IG: @messyandserene
This is the episode I was always meant to record.
Over the span of about a year I attempted to end my life three times. I have never said that publicly before. I am saying it now because I know someone listening needs to hear that there is a way through. That the darkness is not the end. That recovery is real even when it is slow and messy and still happening.
This episode is about what comes after. The guilt and the shame. The gratitude and the grief. What recovery actually looks like from the inside when it is not finished but you are further than you were. And why using your voice is part of the healing.
I chose to stay. I am so glad I did. And I want that for you too.

Be the Safe Person
This one is for the people who love someone who is struggling and do not know what to say. And for the person who is struggling and has not yet found someone safe enough to say it to.
This week we are getting practical. What does it actually look like to show up for someone who is in a dark place? What do you say? What do you not say? What makes someone feel heard versus what makes them pull away and go quiet?
I am answering this from the inside. From the perspective of someone who has been the person struggling. Who knows intimately what the difference feels like between someone who created space and someone who, without meaning to, made the weight heavier.
You might be the phone call that changes everything. Be the safe person. 💌

The Silence We Inherited
We are in September- Suicide Awareness Month. And I have to be honest with you. I did not plan this. I recorded last week's episode without even knowing what month it was. And when I found out... I just had a moment of pure awe. That is God. Not me.
So we are spending the whole month talking about mental health. And today I want to start at the beginning. The reason so many people never ask for help in the first place.
It is not weakness. It is conditioning. It is the unspoken rules we absorbed growing up. The push through, toughen up, do not let them see you struggle culture that got passed down- generation to generation - without anyone meaning for it to cause harm.
I come from a line of very strong women. And I had to reckon with the fact that the same strength that I love about myself made it really easy to ignore what I was actually feeling for a very long time.
The cycle ends when someone decides it ends. Let it end with you. 💌
