When Things Get Hard
What do you do when you’re putting in the effort… but not seeing the results yet? Whether it’s your health, your weight, your business or something else you’re trying to change, it’s easy to interpret “hard” as a sign that it isn’t working. In this episode, I’m exploring a different possibility: maybe hard doesn’t mean wrong. Maybe it simply means you’re doing something new. And when both changing and staying where you are feel hard, there may be a better question to ask: Which hard is taking me somewhere I actually want to go? This is a public episode. How to Take Care of Yourself When Everyone Else Needs You
Have you ever started the day with every intention of taking care of yourself? Maybe getting a workout in, going for a walk, eating well, getting a few things done and then everybody suddenly needs something from you? That happened to me recently. And none of the things that came up were necessarily a big deal. They were just life. Things that needed attention, people I care about, things I could easily take care of. But I noticed how quickly the things I had planned for myself became negotiable. And it got me thinking about how often we do this, particularly as women. We take care of things. We’re capable. We help. We adjust. And somehow we keep bumping ourselves off our own list. So in this episode, I’m talking about what it actually means to take care of yourself when you have a full life and people genuinely do need things from you. Because maybe taking care of yourself first doesn’t mean you always have to come first. Maybe it just means you don’t always have to be the one who comes last. This is a public episode. Why the Scale Isn’t Moving
A client of mine recently had a week where the scale didn’t move after having some pretty epic results through our work together. It didn’t budge… at all. Not up. Not down. I could see she felt a little disappointment in herself, and immediately, her mind went to the food she’d had during the week before our conversation. There had been a road trip. A planned treat meal. A few things outside her normal routine. So naturally, those became the obvious suspects. Except when I heard what she had eaten, the math didn’t quite math for me. So I started asking about the rest of her week. There had been anticipation and stress leading up to a solo road trip. Her car broke down and needed to be towed. She was sleeping away from home and outside her normal routine. She was navigating family dynamics. And somewhere in the middle of all of that, she also had a potentially stressful conversation with a surgeon about her health. None of these things seemed particularly remarkable to her. Because this is life. And I think that’s especially true for strong, independent, high-functioning women. We handle things. We figure them out. We move on. But our bodies are along for the entire ride, recording every encounter, fluctuation of temperature, blood pressure, glucose spikes and crashes. That’s what I explore in this episode. Because when the scale doesn’t move, we’ve been conditioned to look at what we ate or how much we exercised. But our bodies aren’t calculators. Sleep, stress, digestion, hydration, inflammation, changes in routine, emotional load, movement, rest are all part of the environment our body is responding to. It’s constantly adjusting and recalibrating for us. So instead of looking at the scale and deciding whether you had a “good” week or a “bad” week, I want to offer you a different question: What did my body have to process this week, beyond food? That question may tell you far more than the number on the scale ever could. 🎥 Watch the video or listen to the episode above. And if this made you think of someone who is eating less, exercising more, tracking everything and wondering why her body still isn’t responding the way she thinks it should, send this her way. There is so much more going on inside our complex human bodies than calories in and calories out.Big love, XO This is a public episode. What If You Went ALL IN for 4 Months?
What if you gave yourself four months? Not four months of perfection. Not four months of restriction, obsession or putting your life on hold. But four months of really going ALL IN on yourself. We can spend years feeling frustrated with our bodies, our weight, our health, our finances, our relationships and/or our careers, while never really giving ourselves a focused period of time, with patience and consistency, to actually get there. Then, we find ourselves right in the middle of the second half of life. Our bodies are changing. Our hormones are changing. The things that worked at 30 don’t necessarily work the same way they do now. We think we have time. The idea is on our radar and, hell, maybe even on our goal list. But somehow life keeps coming at us and the world keeps spinning faster (or so it seems). I’ve come to understand that two seemingly very unsexy things get us results, and often faster than we realize, even though it doesn’t always feel that way while we’re in it: Time and consistency. They may not be sexy, but they are two of the surest paths to success. In this episode, I’m talking about what it actually means to go ALL IN for four months, why that doesn’t mean being perfect, and just how much can change when you stop starting and stopping and truly commit to supporting yourself. Because four months is going to pass anyway. The question is: where could you be on the other side of them? Watch or listen below. And I’d love to know: if you went ALL IN on yourself for the next four months, what would you most want to be different? This is a public episode. Maybe You Don’t Need to Calm Down
What if calming down isn’t always what your nervous system needs? After a day of feeling irritated, pulled in too many directions, and frustrated with myself, I put on a pair of boxing gloves and started moving. And everything shifted. My mood, energy and feelings all got an upgrade in literally minutes. In this episode, I’m talking about the difference between suppressing what feel like are often unwanted emotions, and actually moving it through the body. We explore why sometimes regulation looks less like deep breathing and more like shaking, walking, lifting, punching, dancing, or letting yourself feel what’s there. Because the goal isn’t to be calm all the time. It’s to have more capacity to move through what life brings. This is a public episode. Episode 10: The Metabolism of Grief
When we think about grief, most of us think about death. But I don’t think that’s the only kind of grief that we women carry. In this Love Note for Your Nervous System, I explore the quieter losses that often go unnamed, like the changing body, the relationships that never became what we hoped, the years spent surviving instead of living, the version of ourselves we thought we’d be by now. Grief may not always be loud or somehow justified. Sometimes it can look like exhaustion, like numbness or feeling disconnected from yourself and life without quite knowing why. And maybe healing begins by giving ourselves permission to acknowledge what we’ve lost... with the same compassion we’d offer anyone else who’s grieving a death. If you’d like to put this Love Note into practice, you can download my free Guided Nervous System Reset. It’s a gentle 13-minute audio designed to help you slow down, soften, and reconnect with a sense of safety, something you can return to anytime your body needs a pause. Episode 9: The Emotional Weight Women Carry
So many women are carrying far more than anyone realizes. Because they’re not talking about it… they’re still functioning, still working, still showing up, still taking care of everyone else. Resilient A.F. In this Love Note for Your Nervous System, I explore the invisible emotional load so many women carry every day, and how the body often begins expressing what we’ve never given ourselves permission to talk about or even feel. Healing doesn’t often happen by doing more. Sometimes it can begin by asking: “What am I still carrying that I was never meant to hold alone?” If today’s Love Note resonated with you, I’d love to invite you to take the next step. I’ve created a free Guided Nervous System Reset—a gentle 13-minute audio to help you slow things down and give your body a chance to settle. Episode 8: Your Body Remembers
Have you ever found yourself reacting to something... and not really understood why? A tone of voice. A certain person. A room. A feeling that arrives in your body before you’ve had time to think it through. In this Love Note for Your Nervous System, I explore the idea that the body remembers what the mind has long since learned to explain away. I talk about how it remembers what once felt unsafe. It remembers the environments we adapted to. And so many of the patterns we find ourselves fighting today were once intelligent ways of protecting us and yet can keep us stuck. Maybe healing isn’t about fixing yourself. Maybe it’s about helping your body discover that it no longer has to operate from old programs. Episode 7: The Metabolism of Overgiving
Something that I don’t think we talk enough about the cost of constantly giving. Not just emotionally. Not just mentally. Physically too. In this Love Note for Your Nervous System, I explore the idea of: that overgiving may be metabolically expensive. What happens when we spend years pouring our energy into everyone and everything around us, while quietly forgetting to ask ourselves whether we’re okay? The body is always paying attention to resource availability. Not just calories or nutrients, but rest. Joy. Support. Connection. Being cared for. Being considered. Maybe healing begins with a different question. Not, “What’s wrong with my body?” But, “What has my body been carrying for me?” If today’s Love Note resonated with you, I’d love to invite you to put it into practice. Episode 6: The Nervous System Side of Exhaustion
“I wake up tired.” It’s something I hear from women all the time. And while more sleep can certainly help, I don’t think exhaustion is always about how many hours you’ve spent in bed. Sometimes it’s about how many years your nervous system has spent staying “on.” In this Love Note for Your Nervous System, I explore the hidden side of exhaustion… the kind that comes from constantly thinking, anticipating, managing, monitoring, and carrying an invisible mental and emotional load. What if you’re not simply tired? What if your nervous system has forgotten what it feels like to truly rest? I hope this episode helps you see your exhaustion with a little more understanding... and a little more compassion. A Little Something for Your Nervous System If you’d like to turn this conversation into a practice, I’ve got a little something for you. I’ve created a free Guided Nervous System Reset. Episode 5: Why You Eat Everything at Night
Episode 5: Why You Eat Everything at Night “I was good all day... and then nighttime came.” It’s something I hear from women quite frequently. And while it’s easy to blame willpower, I think there’s often a much bigger story unfolding beneath the surface. In this Love Note for Your Nervous System, I explore why evening cravings may have less to do with discipline and more to do with a body that’s been running on stress, adrenaline, unstable blood sugar, and constant output all day long. What if your cravings aren’t you not wanting it bad enough? What if they’re your body’s way of communicating and asking for something it’s been missing? Sometimes that “something” is nourishment from food. Though, sometimes it’s rest. And sometimes it’s looking for a lil’ softness or big squishy hug. And sometimes it’s simply the first moment all day that you’ve allowed yourself to stop and really feel the feels. I hope this episode helps you see your cravings with a little more curiosity... and a little less judgment. This is a public episode. Episode 4: Why Some Women Can't Relax
What if you’re not bad at relaxing? What if your body has simply become so accustomed to living in a state of urgency that slowing down no longer feels familiar? In this Love Note for Your Nervous System, I explore why so many high-functioning women struggle to truly rest—not because they’re lazy or doing it wrong, but because their nervous system has adapted to years of pressure, responsibility, and constant stimulation. If you’ve ever sat down only to feel restless, guilty, or immediately start thinking about everything you “should” be doing, this episode is for you. Your body isn’t working against you. It’s been trying to protect you all along. And if you want to take this into real life and into your body, I’ve included a little gift at the end… A guided Gentle Nervous System Reset. Episode 3: The Hidden Stress of Being the Strong One
Some women become “the strong one” so early in life that they forget there was ever another option. In this short Love Note for Your Nervous System, I explore the hidden cost of always being the capable one… the woman everyone depends on, but rarely checks in on. The one who learned that needing people wasn’t safe. If you’ve ever found yourself carrying everyone else while quietly carrying yourself, this one is for you. Take a few quiet minutes. I hope it feels like someone finally asking, “How are you... really?” This is a public episode. Episode 1: The Body Is Always Listening
The Body Is Always Listening Your phone listens. Your body does too. In this first episode I've been sitting with a thought that keeps coming back to me — that the body is always adapting, always responding, always keeping score of the environment she's living in. Not just physically. Emotionally too. And I think a lot of women are trying to heal while still living inside the exact same stress chemistry that exhausted them in the first place. This is a gentle place to start. No protocols. No to-do list. Just a different way of looking at what your body might actually be doing — and why she might be a lot more intelligent than you've been giving her credit for. This is Episode 1 of Love Notes — a series about women's health, nervous system patterns, and the stories our bodies have been quietly telling all along. Before We Begin — Understanding Your Nervous System
Why the body's primary job is survival, and what that means for everything else The autonomic nervous system explained simply Survive mode vs thrive mode, and what's actually happening in the body Why emotional and mental stress activates the same response as physical danger What chronic survival mode looks like in midlife women (and why it's so easy to miss) Why knowing what to do isn't always enough and what's actually getting in the way How the body can adapt back toward safety, healing and thriving This is a public episode. It’s not the gluten or the lactose
We were actually planning to talk about gluten and its connection to hormones… (and yes, we touched on it briefly), but the conversation took a turn. A turn into what I would say are the real issues I see in midlife. And honestly… it’s probably not what you think. No one really talks about this enough. It’s not just about cutting dairy or gluten. It’s really about the connection between your gut, inflammation, and your hormones. I call it the “tricky trio”… and it’s a much bigger piece of the puzzle than most women realize.I had a really honest conversation about this with Sophia Elcock on her podcast, and we went a little deeper into what’s actually going on underneath all of this. Probably not typical advice… but what’s really driving so many of the complaints I hear from women. We talked about how hormones, inflammation, and gut health are always connected, why insulin resistance can show up even when you’re “doing everything right”…and why pushing harder with less food, more fasting and more workouts can sometimes be the exact thing keeping you stuck. We also touched on something I see all the time… that knowing what to do isn’t usually the problem. There’s almost always something deeper going on that needs to be seen first. Here’s the conversation if you feel like listening in.If you’ve been feeling a bit off in your body and confused with what is actually going on, this might give you a different way to look at it. And you’ll hear some of Sophia’s humour, which I absolutely adore. I hope you enjoy, XO This is a public episode.
