The Idols Practising Muslims Don't Know They're Worshipping
When we hear the word idols, we might think of physical statues. But what if the idols we worship today are far more subtle? They can look like other people’s opinions, society’s expectations, attachment to work, external appearances, power and perception. They begin to take hold when we place them above Allah, allowing them to shape our choices and determine how we live. In this episode, I explore the idols we may be carrying within our hearts, including the fear of what people will think and the belief that fixing the external will fix everything else. This is not about abandoning your responsibilities or dismissing the means available to you. It is about putting everything in its proper place and asking yourself an honest question: Who are you really living for? Because stepping into leadership, stewarding wealth and leaving a legacy require more than the right appearance or strategy. They require the courage to leave behind the scripts others have written for you and return to Allah. 🎧 Press play, or listen to this episode through Apple Podcast (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/rizq-unblocked/id6791855043), Spotify (https://open.spotify.com/show/033QQzAHZYG67uPBDwGvR5) or PocketCasts (https://pocketcasts.com/podcast/rizq-unblocked/d9c217e0-63c7-013f-344a-02de017721dd) What’s covered in this episode: * What modern-day idols can look like * How other people’s opinions begin to control our choices * The difference between using the means and placing our hope in them * Why external appearances do not reveal what is inside a person’s heart * How attachment to branding and strategy can distract us from inner work * The connection between purification, transformation and returning to Allah * Why living according to someone else’s script causes suffering * What it takes to put obedience to Allah above the expectations of creation * The difficult question only you and Allah can answer: Who are you really living for? — Are you a Muslim woman in corporate who wants to build a business of your own? For the Woman in Corporate Who Wants a Business of Her Own
This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit rizqunblocked.substack.com (https://rizqunblocked.substack.com?utm_medium=podcast&utm_campaign=CTA_7) I’m excited to introduce you to the private space within Rizq Unblocked. It’s for Muslim women who want to build a business of their own alongside their corporate careers. In this episode, I share why I created it and what you can expect. If you’re considering joining, this is an introduction to the space. And if you’ve already joined, welcome. I’m so glad you’re here. Earlier this week, I shared the story behind my own wish to build a business. I thought it would come naturally to me. I come from generations of business owners, and I’ve been involved in businesses since I was young. But knowing about business and building something of my own turned out to be very different things. Still, I kept trying. I threw everything at this dream: time, money, courses, strategies and systems. Those things mattered, but what I kept missing was the inner work of becoming someone who could actually act on what she knew. Making decisions without waiting for approval. Putting my work out there before I felt completely ready. Asking for help instead of trying to carry everything myself. That’s why I created this space. I want us to work on these things while you build a business that fits your values, your responsibilities and the way you want to live. It’s something I wish I’d had over the last 13 years, as I went through building and closing seven businesses. There’s a lot from those experiences that I’m looking forward to sharing with you here. A thank-you for your support To thank you for supporting Rizq Unblocked, I’m offering a one-month free trial of the paid space. You can listen to the private episodes and join us for live coaching before deciding whether you’d like to stay. Use the link (https://rizqunblocked.substack.com/launch2026) to claim your free month. The offer is available until November 10, 2026. What you can expect * A weekly private podcast: Conversations and insights you can listen to on your way to work or while you’re going about your day. We’ll explore the inner work that comes with building a business of your own, and your relationship with money. * Space for your questions: You can leave questions in the comments, including anything you’d like me to cover in a future episode. * Monthly live coaching: Bring the challenges you’re facing and hear from other Muslim women navigating this transition. My aim is to hold these calls around the start of each Hijri month, rotating times so women in different time zones have a chance to join. * Subscriber-only savings: Discounts on future workshops, and programs. This isn’t a space where I’ll tell you which business to start or where the money is. This work is even deeper. It’s a space to become the woman who owns a business that fits your values and the life you want to have. If you’d like to join, become a paid subscriber to get access to the weekly private podcast and monthly live coaching.

I Had Business in My Blood, But I Still Could Not Make It Work
In this episode, I’m sharing the personal story behind why I became a business coach. What I learned from generations of business owners, seven businesses of my own, and discovering that strategy was not my real problem. It’s raw, honest, and includes some things I haven’t even told my closest friends. 🎧 Press play, or listen to this episode through Apple Podcast (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/rizq-unblocked/id6791855043), Spotify (https://open.spotify.com/show/033QQzAHZYG67uPBDwGvR5) or PocketCasts (https://pocketcasts.com/podcast/rizq-unblocked/d9c217e0-63c7-013f-344a-02de017721dd) In this episode, I talk about: * Growing up in a family of righteous business owners * The shame behind starting and closing multiple businesses * What working in corporate taught me about fear and scarcity * How illness led me towards coaching * The personal patterns that were affecting my business * Why your business can’t grow past where you are * How I now help Muslim women build businesses that fit who they are * The thing that changed my business wasn’t another strategy. It was the inner work. An invitation for Muslim women building a business I’m launching a paid space on Substack for Muslim women who are working in corporate and wanting to build a business of their own. There is a lot that comes up when you start building something for yourself. The game of business is different from the game of corporate, even though there are many useful skills you can take with you. Inside the paid space, I’ll be sharing the part of business that isn’t spoken about enough. The inner work that goes beyond strategy. There Is More Than Enough Wealth for Everyone
Today I want to talk about money, and specifically one belief from the article I posted on Substack called 15 Things I Believe About Money That Most People Don’t. (https://rizqunblocked.substack.com/p/15-things-i-believe-about-money-that) That belief is this: there is more than enough for everyone. Allah created this world abundant by default, and the scarcity most of us feel around money is a limiting belief, not the truth. In this episode, I break down where that scarcity mindset actually comes from, what real abundance looks like in creation, and why chasing money to heal what’s missing inside you will never actually work. 🎧 Press play, or listen to this episode through Apple Podcast (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/rizq-unblocked/id6791855043), Spotify (https://open.spotify.com/show/033QQzAHZYG67uPBDwGvR5) or PocketCasts (https://pocketcasts.com/podcast/rizq-unblocked/d9c217e0-63c7-013f-344a-02de017721dd) What’s covered in this episode * How Allah created the world abundant by default, and why you only need to look at creation to see it * What Allah’s names Al-Karim and Al-Mughni tell us about provision * Why the scarcity we experience today is not the default, but the result of injustice and hoarding * What the numbers actually show, what each person would receive if wealth was divided equally, compared to what the top 1 percent holds today * Why money is a tool that amplifies whatever is already in your heart * Why chasing wealth to heal insecurity becomes a race that never ends, no matter how much you earn * The invitation to question any guilt you carry about earning more, since someone else’s abundance never decreases yours If you've been playing small with your business or your money goals because some part of you believes there isn't enough to go around, book a coaching session with me (https://rizqunblocked.substack.com/p/work-with-me) and let’s go deeper. You Don't Have to Say Yes to Every Good Deed
In today’s episode, I want to talk about a trap I see so many Muslim women falling into: saying yes to everything because it’s khair, because it’s a good deed. When every opportunity feels like a chance to earn reward, you end up taking on too much, feeling overwhelmed, and stretched thin in every direction. In this episode, I walk through how to discern what you actually must do, what you are best suited to do, and what you can let go of, so you can lead with clarity instead of guilt. 🎧 Press play, or listen to this episode through Apple Podcast (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/rizq-unblocked/id6791855043), Spotify (https://open.spotify.com/show/033QQzAHZYG67uPBDwGvR5) or PocketCasts (https://pocketcasts.com/podcast/rizq-unblocked/d9c217e0-63c7-013f-344a-02de017721dd) What’s covered in this episode * The trap of saying yes to everything because it feels like a good deed * Why being able to do something doesn’t mean you need to do it * Going back to your source of truth and knowing what is fard on you * Getting honest about whether you’re actually fulfilling what’s already obligatory, your health, your family, your marriage * How Allah’s legislation of prayer, five obligatory and the rest voluntary, mirrors this same discernment * Why saying no is an uncomfortable but necessary part of stepping into leadership * The contrast in how women and men often navigate priorities and boundaries * The reflection questions to ask yourself: is this something I must do, I’ve been made to do, I can do, or something only Allah can take care of If you're the sister who says yes to everything because it feels like khair, but you're quietly drowning in it all, book a coaching session (https://rizqunblocked.substack.com/p/work-with-me) and let’s find out how you can get out. Why Your Messy House Is Blocking Your Business
If your home life is chaotic, that chaos follows you straight into your business. That's what I want to explore in this episode. The reality is that most female entrepreneurs carry a weight that looks different from most male entrepreneurs. The fix isn’t to work harder, it’s to build real systems at home, the same way you’d build systems in a business. In this episode, I get honest about why - as a woman in business - the house and the business are so tied together, why sincere intention turns even the most boring daily tasks into something that carries barakah, and why unlearning the nine to five mindset that ties your worth to hours worked matters so much on this path. 🎧 Press play, or listen to this episode through Apple Podcast (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/rizq-unblocked/id6791855043), Spotify (https://open.spotify.com/show/033QQzAHZYG67uPBDwGvR5) or PocketCasts (https://pocketcasts.com/podcast/rizq-unblocked/d9c217e0-63c7-013f-344a-02de017721dd) What is covered in episode: * Why the load looks different for most female entrepreneurs, who often don’t have the same support at home that many male entrepreneurs rely on * Treating your house like a business: what systems, routines, and help you actually need * How the systems Allah built into creation, even the human body, are a model for the systems we need at home * Unlearning nine to five habits: the need to fill time with busywork, the belief that more hours means more success * Why focus, not hours, is what actually moves a business forward * Solving small recurring problems, like meal planning, so they stop draining your energy * Doing the boring, repetitive tasks with the right intention, and how that sabr can be a form of worship If you're building a business while also trying to hold a home together that feels like it's falling apart, book a coaching session (https://rizqunblocked.substack.com/p/work-with-me) with me and let’s address this. Why Content Creation Feels So Hard (It's Not Skill)
Stepping into your leadership starts with being willing to be seen, and for a lot of women, that shows up most clearly the moment you have to post something. This episode isn’t about content strategy. It’s about why knowing how to create content still doesn’t make it easy to actually show up and post it, especially for women who are capable, qualified, and still hold back. If you struggle to be seen, if speaking your truth never felt safe growing up, if you learned to be a people pleaser and say what others want to hear instead of what you actually think, all of that shows up the moment you try to post something. That’s the part that never really gets talked about, and it’s usually the real reason showing up as a leader through your content feels so much harder than it should. 🎧 Press play, or listen to this episode through Apple Podcast (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/rizq-unblocked/id6791855043), Spotify (https://open.spotify.com/show/033QQzAHZYG67uPBDwGvR5) or PocketCasts (https://pocketcasts.com/podcast/rizq-unblocked/d9c217e0-63c7-013f-344a-02de017721dd) What is covered in episode * Why the block around content usually isn’t about strategy or knowing what to do * The fear of being seen and how it quietly shapes what you’re willing to post * Growing up as a people pleaser and how that shows up when you try to speak your truth publicly * The iceberg underneath every piece of content you see online, and all the work that happens before someone hits post * My own twelve years of podcasting on and off, and the anxiety that still shows up before I hit record * Why the treasure inside you is already there, just buried under conditioning and old experiences * What tazkiyah has to do with being ready to actually create and share what you know If you know you're meant to lead and you keep holding back the moment it's time to show up, send me a DM on Substack (https://substack.com/@mifrahmahroof) or Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/mifrahmahroof/) and let's talk about what's really in the way. You Know Your Next Step. So Why Are You Still Stuck?
You know your next step. You can see point B clearly. And yet something keeps you at point A. In this episode, I want to offer you a reframe: instead of shaming yourself for being stuck, what if you asked a different question? What do you actually need to move forward? 🎧 Press play, or listen to this episode through Apple Podcast (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/rizq-unblocked/id6791855043), Spotify (https://open.spotify.com/show/033QQzAHZYG67uPBDwGvR5) or PocketCasts (https://pocketcasts.com/podcast/rizq-unblocked/d9c217e0-63c7-013f-344a-02de017721dd). In this episode: * Why shaming yourself for being stuck does not work, and what to do instead * The question I ask my clients when they know what they need to do but cannot seem to do it * Why so many of us were never taught to name our needs, and how that follows us into business * The name of Allah, As-Samad, the self-sufficient, the fulfiller of needs, and what it means to actually ask * A practical exercise: brainstorming what you need to move from A to B without immediately shutting it down * Real examples of what “I need” can look like: a financial runway, money management skills, someone to talk to * The example of Yusuf Alayhis Salam and what good stewardship of resources actually looks like * Why your big goals can feel lonely, and what to do when the people around you do not quite understand * Nothing is too small and nothing is too big: what it looks like to write your needs down honestly If you know your next step but something is keeping you stuck, reply to this email, or send me a DM (Substack (https://substack.com/@mifrahmahroof) or Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/mifrahmahroof/)) and let’s work out what you need to feel supported. What Is the Point of Your Business?
I started watching a documentary about food fraud, and somewhere in the middle of it, I found myself thinking about what is the reason we - as Muslim entrepreneurs - are in business in the first place? In this episode, I’m asking the question I think most business content avoids: what is the actual point of what you’re building? 🎧 Press play, or listen to this episode through Apple Podcast (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/rizq-unblocked/id6791855043), Spotify (https://open.spotify.com/show/033QQzAHZYG67uPBDwGvR5) or PocketCasts (https://pocketcasts.com/podcast/rizq-unblocked/d9c217e0-63c7-013f-344a-02de017721dd). In this episode: * What a food fraud documentary sparked in me about the state of business today * The hadith about the honest merchant who will be alongside the prophets and the truthful on the Day of Judgement * Why Muslim entrepreneurs carry something the world genuinely needs right now * The river metaphor: what it looks like when your business becomes a source of rizq for communities, not just yourself * Why hiring people and giving them dignified work might be the most impactful thing you can do with your earnings * The problem with Muslim businesses that carry the name but not the values * Why your business is a reflection of your inner world, and what that means for the work ahead * What it looks like to step into the legacy your business is actually capable of If you want to be the righteous business owner who shines in today’s dark marketplace, and you want support stepping into that identity, send me a DM (Substack (https://substack.com/@mifrahmahroof) or Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/mifrahmahroof/)) and let's talk. Sincerity Is the Best Marketing Strategy You Have
Ibrahim Alayhis Salam made the call to Hajj in an empty desert. No audience, no reach, no guarantee anyone would hear it. And yet Allah carried that call to every person who needed it. In this episode, I’m sitting with what that story means for us as Muslim women with something worth sharing. I also made a mistake recently and I’m talking about it openly, because it’s the most honest thing I can do for those of you who are sitting on your work waiting for it to be perfect. 🎧 Press play, or listen to this episode through Apple Podcast (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/rizq-unblocked/id6791855043), Spotify (https://open.spotify.com/show/033QQzAHZYG67uPBDwGvR5) or PocketCasts (https://pocketcasts.com/podcast/rizq-unblocked/d9c217e0-63c7-013f-344a-02de017721dd). In this episode: * What happened with the Backstage Pass and why I took it down * Why I’m rebranding this podcast to my own name * What this show will now cover: money, personal power, and legacy from an Islamic lens * The fear of putting your work out there and where it really comes from * Why modesty doesn’t mean hiding your gifts * The Ibrahim Alayhis Salam reframe: he made the call to Hajj in an empty desert, and Allah carried it to who needed to hear it * Why two listeners are two real human beings connected to entire networks * Why sincerity is the best marketing you have * Why you already know your next step If you have work worth sharing and you want support putting it out there, send me a DM (Substack (https://substack.com/@mifrahmahroof) or Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/mifrahmahroof/)) and let's talk. The Practice That's Sharpening My Purpose and Unlocking My Rizq
What if the most powerful thing you could do for your business had nothing to do with strategy? We’re living in the age of brain rot. Endless scrolling, fractured attention, the inability to sit still for longer than 30 seconds. And the thing is, the knowledge of how to reach our goals is already out there. That’s not the problem. The problem is we can’t focus long enough to actually do anything with it. In this episode, I’m sharing something that’s been quietly transforming how I work, write, and pursue my rizq: Quran memorisation. I know that might sound like an unexpected answer. But stay with me. When you start memorising the Quran, you’re essentially doing progressive weight training for your brain. You start with five minutes. Then ten. Then fifteen. Until you’ve built the kind of focused attention that most people can only dream of in today’s world. But it’s not just brain training. That’s the part I really want you to hear. Memorising the Quran purifies your heart. And that matters for your rizq, because Allah places guidance in your heart. But if your heart is crowded out by noise and consumption, you can’t hear it. You start second-guessing yourself. You follow the marketing guru instead of the quiet nudge that’s been trying to reach you all along. This episode is for you if you’re chasing goals but feeling scattered. If you sense there’s a next step but can’t quite hear it. If you want to build something meaningful and you’re open to the idea that the path forward might not be another strategy. It might just be this. 🎧 Press play, or listen to this episode through Apple Podcast (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/rizq-unblocked/id6791855043), Spotify (https://open.spotify.com/show/033QQzAHZYG67uPBDwGvR5) or PocketCasts (https://pocketcasts.com/podcast/rizq-unblocked/d9c217e0-63c7-013f-344a-02de017721dd). Also if you are looking for a Quran teacher to start off or continue your Quran memorisation journey, I highly recommend Preply (https://preply.com/en/?pref=MTU5NTczNTU=&id=1784266180.844534&ep=w1). In this episode: * Why our attention spans are the real barrier to reaching our goals * How Quran memorisation builds deep focus * The difference between brain training and heart purification * How a crowded heart makes it hard to hear divine guidance toward your rizq * What rizqun tayyib actually means and why it changes how we pursue provision * How memorisation has shaped my own writing process and where my ideas come from Ready to go further? * Work with me one on one (https://rizqunblocked.substack.com/p/work-with-me): When you’re ready to move from knowing to actually doing. Stop Asking How Your Rizq Will Come. Ask This Instead.
A few years ago I was still working at Amazon, back from a one-year maternity leave, sitting in a role I had worked really hard to get into. Good team. Good salary. And a heart that wasn’t in the same place it was before I left. I spent a long time looking for the fix in the wrong place. Another team. Another tech company. Maybe some extra training. What I didn’t want to see was that I wasn’t really holding onto the job. I was holding onto a very specific idea of how my rizq was allowed to reach me. In this episode I talk about what actually started to shift, the verse that kept coming back to me in that season, and the one question I want you to ask yourself instead of how. Press play. It’s 6 minutes. When reading is no longer enough, and you want help to turn this knowledge into action, send me a DM (Substack (https://substack.com/@mifrahmahroof) or Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/mifrahmahroof/)) and let’s talk.
