Staying Under Threshold, Together. Featuring Yvette Potter of The Urban Canine Gibraltar

Welcome to mindfulness & dogs, the podcast for dog guardians who are walking the path of reactivity with heart, courage, and compassion. I’m Biggi, coach, dog trainer and longtime student of mindfulness with a big heart for the messy sides of living with dogs. In this episode Yvette Potter of UrbanK9 Gibraltar and I continue our conversation by exploring how mindfulness fits alongside training protocols like Behaviour Adjustment Training (BAT) and other positive reinforcement methods. We also unpack some common misconceptions about mindfulness in the dog world - and why it’s such a powerful support for both guardians and their reactive dogs. If you want to get in touch with Yvette, send a DM to her Instagram Profile. The Power of Stillness.

This episode is a special milestone - our very first guest interview! I’m delighted to welcome Yvette Potter of UrbanK9 Gibraltar to the podcast. We had such a meaningful (and fun!) conversation about how mindfulness and nervous system awareness can deeply shape life with our dogs. We explored how these practices support both ends of the leash, especially in challenging moments. And we had such a lot to talk about that I split our conversation into two parts. Tune in to part 1 to learn how understanding yourself can help you understand and support your dog even more. If you want to get in touch with Yvette, send a DM to her Instagram Profile. When Your Inner Child Walks the Dog

Welcome to mindfulness & dogs, the podcast for dog guardians who are walking the path of reactivity with heart, courage, and compassion. I’m Biggi, coach, dog trainer and longtime student of mindfulness with a big heart for the messy sides of living with dogs. Have you ever noticed how our dog seems to reflect more than just our training or daily routines? Sometimes, they show us the very strategies we’ve built to protect ourselves, and, if we look closely, the deeper needs behind them. In this episode, I want to share how my late dog Charlie became that kind of mirror for me. Tuning into these reflections can open up the door to more compassion, healing, and connection with our dogs and with ourselves. Listen in and learn how your past influences your dog’s present and what to do about it. If you’d like to go deeper, I invite you to download my free guide “Support Your Leash Reactive Dog. 3 mindful tools to help your dog calm down on walks”.  It’s full of simple, practical tools you can start using right away. Attunement without Entanglement

Welcome to mindfulness & dogs, the podcast for dog guardians who are walking the path of reactivity with heart, courage, and compassion. I’m Biggi, coach, dog trainer and longtime student of mindfulness with a big heart for the messy sides of living with dogs. If your dog is one of those sensitive souls who get uncomfortable at a great many things out there in the world, you know exactly just HOW messy it can get. And once your dog starts to growl, bark or lunge at whatever make them uncomfortable, it is hard not to be swept up in this wave of emotion. There is way, though, to be attuned to your dog without absorbing their stress. You CAN notice their signals with compassion while staying centered in your own body. It IS possible to support your dog through challenges AND support yourself in the process. Listen in and learn how this works. If you’d like to go deeper, I invite you to download my free guide “Support Your Leash Reactive Dog. 3 mindful tools to help your dog calm down on walks”.  It’s full of simple, practical tools you can start using right away. Breathing is your Superpower

Welcome to mindfulness & dogs, the podcast for dog guardians who are walking the path of reactivity with heart, courage, and compassion. I’m Biggi, coach, dog trainer and longtime student of mindfulness. When your dog lunges or barks, your own breath often vanishes and stress takes over. In this episode, you’ll learn a powerful breathing technique you can use in the moment to stay steady and supportive, even when reactivity shows up. A few breaths at a time can change everything for both you and your dog. Because calmer walks don’t start with a quick fix. They start with you. And your calm is your dogs safe place. How Calmer Walks Started with Me, Not My Dog

In this episode I share some of my own story of living with a reactive dog and how I discovered that regulating my own nervous system was the missing piece.
