Episode 26: Enneagram Mini-Series - The Three Instincts of Enneagram Types
In today’s episode of the Enneagram mini-series, Jayson and I explore another component of the Enneagram framework. Just when you thought you were getting a handle on the different types..there’s more! This layer of the subtlety of the Enneagram emerges from the combination of three basic instincts within each core Enneagram type. These basic instincts combine with each of the 9 types leading to a total of 27 subtypes, three for each primary type. When the passion and the dominant instinctual drive come together, they create an even more specific focus of attention, reflecting an insatiable need that drives behavior. Dr. Claudio Naranjo, considered one of the pioneers of bringing the Enneagram subtypes into modern psychology, integrated this knowledge to create a comprehensive framework for understanding human behavior.

Episode 25: Enneagram Mini-Series - The Enneagram in the Global Context
Published 29 Aug 2024 · Transcript excerpt
[…] So, Jason, how have you used the Enneagram and the different cultural contexts? What are some insights you can share? Well, I love what you just said about your own work experience and the distinctions between Latin American culture, Asian culture, Middle Eastern culture, African culture. There's such nuance. And even if we get to a country specific level, there's such nuance. And one of the things that I like about the Enneagram and using it with the leaders that I get to work with, which thanks to Zoom is kind of all over the world, is that it works. Because of the structure of it, and we'll get into that in a second, we can actually use this tool to help people better understand themselves, what their tendencies are, because it looks at our inner motivations and It looks at our core fears.
