In Psalm 96, we see that great is the Lord and greatly to be praised by His gathered people among the nations. We are not spectators in worship, but participants who are called to bring the Lord the praise He is due because of His splendor, majesty, beauty, glory, and holiness. The Lord is the only recipient of our worship, and our focus must be on magnifying Him rather than ourselves or the environment of worship. As we gather each Sunday, our worship declares to the nations that the Lord reigns, proclaiming His greatness to a godless world and lifting up Christ so that others might come to know His salvation.

Soul Care in the Church (Hebrews 13:17)
God has designed the church to be a place where our souls are cared for, and Hebrews 13:17 shows us one important way He provides that care: through pastors and elders who watch over the souls entrusted to them. Pastors carry a weighty responsibility to pray, teach, disciple, guard, pursue, and shepherd God’s people, knowing that they will one day give an account for how they cared for those souls. In response, Christians are called to obey their leaders, understand the burden they carry, and not hinder their work, but to make it possible for them to shepherd with joy. Ultimately, soul care in the church is a gift of God’s grace, helping His people persevere as we look to Christ, the Great Shepherd of our souls.

True Revival (2 Kings 22-23)
Josiah’s story is one of the most inspiring, and yet ultimately anticlimactic, stories in the Old Testament. When the book of the Law is found in the Temple, Josiah leads Judah in repentance, reform, and renewed worship, but even this great revival cannot permanently change the hearts of God’s people. Josiah dies, Judah returns to rebellion, and judgment still comes, showing us that we need more than a good king or another season of revival. We need a Savior. Josiah points us to Jesus, the true and better King from the line of David, who not only calls us to repentance but gives us new hearts, conquers sin and death, and brings us into the life and salvation we could never earn.
