58. The Man Who Builds Museums Under the Sea | Jason deCaires Taylor
We have better maps of Mars than of our own ocean floor. We've explored less than 5% of it. And the part we do know, the coral reefs, is dying fast.
So how do you make people care about a world they can't see?
Jason deCaires Taylor's answer: sink art into it.
Jason (https://www.instagram.com/jasondecairestaylor/) is a sculptor, diver, and marine conservationist who has built 9 underwater museums and placed more than 1,200 sculptures on the seabed, from Mexico to Grenada to Lanzarote to the fjords of Oslo. He casts them from local people, anchors them to survive Category 5 hurricanes, and then steps back to let nature finish the work. Coral grows on them. Fish move in. In some sites, fish abundance has gone up 68% and biomass 415%.

In this episode, I sit down with Shareef Al Romaithi (https://www.linkedin.com/in/shareef-al-romaithi-ph-d-412a81214/), a former Etihad Airlines pilot who traded the cockpit for the cosmos. After two near-misses with the UAE astronaut program, he founded Madari Space (https://www.linkedin.com/company/madarispace/) - a startup building a constellation of data centers in low Earth orbit, backed by the UAE government and set to launch its first mission in 2027.
We get into why terrestrial data centers are quietly becoming an environmental disaster (they emit more carbon than the entire airline industry), how data sovereignty could become the next geopolitical battleground, and why "the Switzerland of data" might not be a country at all - it might be orbit.

56. Fuel Made From Thin Air, Water and Sunshine with Florian Hildebrand
Every time a plane takes off, it burns fuel. Real, liquid fuel. Not batteries. And that's not changing anytime soon. Planes, cargo ships, factories: nearly a third of global CO2 emissions come from industries that simply can't "go electric."
My guest today is Florian Hildebrand (https://www.linkedin.com/in/florian-alexander-hildebrand/), mechanical engineer, serial entrepreneur, and someone who walked away from a software company he scaled to 200+ people and €80M raised, because he felt the pull to work on something that actually mattered.
Together with a researcher who spent 15 years developing the tech in a German university lab, Florian is building a way to pull CO2 straight from the air, store it in a crystal (think: a battery, but for carbon), combine it with green hydrogen, and turn it into synthetic fuel. Fuel that runs in a Boeing 737 with zero modifications to the engine or the airport.
We talk about the science, the economics of bankability, why hydrogen planes aren't the answer (yet), and what a world of energy abundance instead of scarcity could actually look like.
