   The Alex Argudin Playbook

Alex Argudin didn’t set out to build a career in parking. She started working for the City of Miami at 14 years old, answering phones through a summer youth program. Years later, a leap of faith brought her to the Miami Parking Authority. Another opened the door to operations. And eventually, she became CEO. In this episode of Mobility Mavericks, Alex joins Brooke Krieger for a candid conversation about the career decisions, mentors, relationships, and moments of initiative that shaped her path. Alex shares why speaking up about what you want can change the trajectory of your career, what she learned by embedding herself alongside frontline employees, and how she built a leadership philosophy around a simple idea: lead people the way you would want to be led. They also talk about motherhood and ambition, earning respect in a male-dominated industry, building a culture people don’t want to leave, the importance of industry involvement through FPTA and IPMI, and why the next generation of parking and mobility leaders may take the industry places we haven’t imagined yet. From writing her first parking ticket to leading MPA through COVID and looking toward what comes next, Alex’s story is a reminder that careers aren’t always built according to a plan. Sometimes you have to recognize the opportunity, say what you want, and be ready when the door opens. Work for the Job You Want with Salena Laws

What happens when you stop waiting for the next job and start working like you already have it? In this episode of Mobility Mavericks, Brooke sits down with Salena Laws, Director of Parking and Transportation Services at the University of North Florida and former President of the Florida Parking and Transportation Association, for a conversation about a career that was anything but carefully mapped out. Salena shares how she went from waitressing her way through college and earning an unusual e-business degree to accounting at UNF, eventually finding her way into parking and steadily growing into leadership. Along the way, she helped transform UNF's parking operation, embraced new technology, learned to advocate for her own career growth, and discovered an entire industry and professional community she hadn't known existed. Brooke and Salena also get into self-advocacy, building teams that don't need you to function, learning strategic patience, why women need to brag about themselves a little more, and the value of admitting when you don't know something and finding people who do. Salena also shares why one of her biggest professional regrets is not finding mentorship sooner. It’s a funny, candid conversation about what can happen when you keep your head up, advocate for yourself and work for the job you want, not just the one you have. Say Her Name in the Room: Britney Cooper on Career Leaps, Leadership & the Power of Relationships

What happens when someone says your name in a room you’re not in? For Britney Cooper, National Proposal Development Director at LAZ Parking, relationships have shaped nearly every chapter of a career she never originally planned. Britney joins Brooke Krieger on Mobility Mavericks to share her unlikely journey from education to parking, including starting an entirely new career while pregnant, learning the industry from the ground up, taking career risks during COVID, and eventually building and leading a national proposal team at one of the largest parking operators in the country. Her path is a reminder that sometimes the next opportunity comes because someone you worked with believed in you enough to say your name when you weren’t there. They also get into the surprisingly competitive world of RFPs, why winning proposals require far more than simply checking the compliance boxes, and how AI is beginning to change both sides of public procurement. Britney makes the case for using AI as a starting point and another set of eyes, while keeping human strategy, judgment, and creativity firmly in the process. And, in true Mobility Mavericks fashion, the conversation comes back to people: the mentors who shaped Britney’s career, the importance of getting involved and building a real network, and what she’s learning now that she’s become a mentor herself. It’s a conversation about taking the leap, finding your people, doing the work, and making sure you’re saying someone else’s name in the rooms they haven’t reached yet. The Path to the C-Suite with Jodi Hart

In this episode of Mobility Mavericks, Brooke Krieger sits down with Jodi Hart, Chief Financial Officer of the Pittsburgh Parking Authority, for a conversation that starts with money and parking and quickly becomes something much bigger. Jodi’s path to the C-suite was anything but linear. She went back to school as a nontraditional student, took a major pay cut later in her career to earn the experience required to become a CPA, trained for a marathon in her 40s, moved across the country, found her way into parking almost by accident, and even decided to learn golf after realizing how much business was happening in rooms, and on courses, where women weren’t always included. Now firmly in what she calls her “feral 50s,” Jodi talks candidly about learning to take up space, letting go of people-pleasing, trusting her team, and recognizing that sometimes women can’t wait to be invited to the table. Sometimes, you have to kick in the door. Brooke and Jodi also explore the unique role of a CFO in public-sector parking, why Jodi thinks of herself as a “Chief Future Officer,” the stories hiding behind the numbers, mentorship and paying it forward, and what it means to keep reinventing yourself long after the world expects you to have everything figured out. It’s a conversation about ambition, resilience, leadership, and becoming more yourself with every chapter. Building Better Cities with Alyssa Alt

What do interior design, car sharing, urban planning, and parking have in common? For Alyssa Alt, they were all stepping stones toward a career shaping how people move through cities. In this episode, Brooke sits down with Alyssa, Division Manager of the Parking System Enterprise for the City of Colorado Springs, to explore her unconventional journey into mobility. They discuss how a passion for public service led her from nonprofit transportation initiatives to managing one of Colorado's largest municipal parking systems, why operations often gets overlooked despite being the backbone of every successful city, and how mentorship and industry involvement helped accelerate her leadership journey. They also dive into the evolution of curb management, why parking professionals should think beyond parking, and why sometimes the best career move is simply saying yes and getting involved. Whether you're new to mobility or decades into your career, this conversation is a reminder that great leaders aren't born with a roadmap. They're built through curiosity, community, and a willingness to keep learning. The Making of Julie Dixon: Part Two

In Part Two of The Making of Julie Dixon, the story shifts from Julie's unlikely entry into parking to the creation of one of the industry's most respected consulting firms. Julie shares the lessons she learned while helping manage some of the most complex parking programs in the country, including San Francisco's groundbreaking SFpark initiative. She reflects on building a career in technology, operations, and parking innovation long before "smart mobility" became a buzzword, and opens up about the risks, mistakes, and pivotal decisions that ultimately led her to launch Dixon Resources Unlimited. Along the way, Julie offers candid advice on leadership, mentorship, self-worth, and the challenges women face in male-dominated industries. From negotiating her own salary down early in her career to becoming a trusted advisor to cities across North America, Julie's story is equal parts cautionary tale, masterclass, and inspiration. The episode closes with reflections on earning a doctorate, delivering a TEDx talk about parking, the importance of celebrating your wins, and the mentors who helped shape her journey. Plus, a rapid-fire round that somehow leads to discussions about Greece, bird watching, Drucker, parking philosophy, and one regret that still stays with her today. If Part One was about how Julie found parking, Part Two is about how she built a legacy within it. The Making of Julie Dixon: Part One

In Part One of The Making of Julie Dixon, Brooke sits down with Julie Dixon, founder of Dixon Resources Unlimited and one of the most respected voices in parking and mobility, to go far beyond the resume and into the story behind the name. Julie shares what it was like growing up in Southern California as the youngest child and only girl with three older brothers, how early family dynamics shaped her confidence and sense of humor, and how she first learned to hold her own in male-dominated spaces. From cleaning bathrooms at her father’s Volkswagen repair shop to becoming a student community service officer at UC Santa Barbara, Julie’s path into parking was anything but ordinary. This episode traces the early chapters of Julie’s career, including her first exposure to law enforcement, campus safety, parking enforcement, automated red-light camera technology, and the operational realities that eventually pulled her deeper into the parking industry. Along the way, Julie reflects on gender roles, risk-taking, leadership, thick skin, and the experiences that helped shape her into the consultant, business owner, and industry leader she is today. This is the beginning of Julie’s story: the childhood, the chaos, the confidence, the career pivots, and the moments that made Julie Dixon, Julie Dixon. Tune in next week for Part Two. From Europe to the U.S.: Laura Caillot on Scaling Mobility Tech in a New Market

In this episode of Mobility Mavericks, Brooke Krieger sits down with Laura Caillot, Managing Director of Survision U.S., for a conversation about building a mobility technology brand in a new market from the ground up. Laura shares her journey from Italy to Venezuela to Miami, how she unexpectedly found her way into parking and vehicle recognition technology, and what it took to bring a successful European company into the complex and relationship-driven U.S. market. The conversation covers the realities of market entry, why European technology companies cannot simply “copy and paste” their strategy into the U.S., the importance of local presence, and how trust, patience, and industry relationships became the foundation for Survision’s growth. Laura also talks about choosing parking as the company’s primary U.S. focus, winning its first major airport project, building a team around attitude over experience, and why vehicle recognition is becoming much bigger than license plate recognition alone. This episode is a smart, candid look at innovation, leadership, and the human side of scaling technology in parking and mobility. Inside the IPMI Panel: Generational Leadership in Mobility

In this episode of Mobility Mavericks, Brooke Krieger sits down with Dr. Tanara Teal-Tate, Rachel Clapp, and Kristyna Schedine for a behind-the-scenes preview of their upcoming IPMI panel on generational leadership in parking and mobility. Together, they unpack how different career stages shape the way we lead, make decisions, and navigate an industry that is still evolving. From early career uncertainty to executive-level leadership, this conversation explores what happens when multiple generations are not just present in the room, but actually heard. The group dives into mentorship, career growth, and the reality that success in this industry doesn’t follow a single path. Whether it’s being pushed into opportunities, learning to find your voice, or mentoring the next generation, each perspective highlights the importance of collaboration across experience levels. This episode also challenges the status quo of industry conversations, pushing beyond the usual focus on technology to ask a bigger question: Who is shaping the conversation—and who’s still being left out? Think of this as your pregame to IPMI—and a reminder that the future of mobility won’t be built by one generation alone.
