The Drunken Mystics: Rumi, Hafiz & the Women Sufi Poets

The Drunken Mystics: Rumi, Hafiz & the Women Sufi Poets Eight centuries on, Rumi is one of the best-selling poets in America, and Hafiz shows up on bookmarks and wedding programs everywhere. So why do these medieval Persian mystics still speak so directly to modern hearts? In this solo episode of Modern Druid, Eric explores the ecstatic tradition of Sufi poetry. We start with Rumi and his life-altering friendship with Shams of Tabriz, move to the wine-soaked wisdom of Hafiz, and then turn to Rabia al-Basri, the 8th-century mystic who reshaped Sufism around pure, fearless love of the Divine. Along the way we look at what makes this poetry so beloved: the longing, the intoxication, and the idea of love itself as a spiritual path. We also look at a more complicated question. How much of the "Rumi" and "Hafiz" we read today is really theirs, and how much is modern reinvention?

What is Lughnasadh and who is Lugh?

Taped at Druid Roundtable a once a month gathering. If you're interested in attending please email us at Moderndruid.com Today, I shared the story of Lugh, the 'many gifted one,' and how his talents and sacrifices shaped Ireland’s history. From his arrival at Tara, to his battle against Balor's wicked eye, this tale reveals the power of humility and legacy. It’s not just about heroism—it’s about recognizing the gifts we’re given and sharing them selflessly. This story reminds us that true greatness often comes from giving—and that the most profound gifts are those we give away, not keep for ourselves. What part of Lugh's story hits you the most? Do you see your own talents as tools for good? Let me know below — I’d love to hear your thoughts.Full story + further reading in bio!#IrishMythology #Lunasa #HeritageAndLegacy #MythologyMonday #lughnasadh
