[…] They were preserving food. They cooked largely from scratch, pretty much everything from scratch. That was just normal for them. They heated their homes manually. They made and repaired household goods. They didn't just go on to Amazon and buy a new broom when the stick broke it's like okay we find a way to make this work they also had fewer modern appliances and also often cared for larger families so the argument is not that homes used to be easier because they absolutely weren't the argument is that the burden has changed now historical homemaking often demanded tremendous physical labor as we just listed out a list of things but modern homemaking can demand tremendous amounts of management, of decision-making, of inventory running through our heads, organization, maintenance, consumption management.
