Episode 309: The Decline of SpaceXAI, Tesla, Plus collapse of Google Search Ecosystem amidst rise of the Surveillance State
Summer break's over and the ModState Podcast is back in session!Your hosts initially discuss Rhode Island and several others among the northeastern United States (Connecticut & Massachusetts, namely), the wealthiest areas of America in terms of per capita income.From there, they discuss Elon Musk and SpaceXAI's post-IPO struggles; of note, however, is while most of the corporations competing in the AI space seem to be expanding their total compute capacity (via datacenter creation/expansion, usually), Musk's AI entity has been selling datacenter capacity, including to rivals Anthropic and OpenAI.Of significance (but receiving far less airtime) is Google's stranglehold on Internet search and how their Search becoming an "AI Summary" is choking off critical traffic to all but the biggest of (already established) names on the open web. Contrary to their corporate statements and attempts at face-saving PR, Google search traffic has plummeted for most members of the media (to include ModState), reaching critical mass of late. Proof of this exists in The Economist, POLITICO & the Wall Street Journal alike (among other big names) threatening to pull out of Google's ad/search ecosystem entirely. Google's AI was built using the Internet, ironically, and now appears to be choking off the remaining life of many media firms dependent upon traffic from Google search that (as a result of AI "Summaries") they don't get unless a user goes to the 2nd (and sometimes 3rd) page on the summary to follow the link to an external page. Most web users aren't going to do that, hence the nigh-Apocalyptic drop in traffic for much of the Internet (especially within the Media [Mainstream or New]).Google's pronouncement that they've got hallucinations down to 9% is hardly comforting, as this means users are having to sift through eight-figures worth of erroneous information every day.Lastly, is the surveillance state (Flock, e.g.); in addition to resisting the founding and/or expansion of existing data centers, America and Her People are pushing back on the use of private enterprise (Flock, namely) to institute a panopticon of surveillance of the populace.Post-topical discussion centers around EFFECT CO. and its founder, Mariel Campbell; in addition to her upcoming 3rd appearance on the podcast, we're pleased to announce she and her Firm are preparing numerous, additional Press Releases this week as much of her vision starts to come into view. It's thrilling to see "the Good Guys" win again once in awhile. More details pending said PR this week (and early next month)!

Episode 308: Near the Gaping Maw of Madness
Regardless of what we might think in terms of likelihood or whether they're kosher or not, things just keep getting weirder in our (allegedly) erstwhile Republic.But take heart! Or at least your hosts did; in one recent piece of good news, a relic of the Prohibition era's MO was undone when the Trump Administration moved to de-schedule/re-schedule cannabis from Schedule 1. While previously ranked in a category of drugs so severe (like heroin) as to purportedly have no medicinal value and thus difficult to even study, marijuana now finds itself in a kinder, gentler category. Being Schedule 3/III/Three loosens up some of the rules restricting academia from learning some of the longer-term effects. This is actually of massive import to your hosts, Crazy Eddie Magic & Sailor Jack D., as now we will be able to eventually learn of the mental health impacts (for example) of consuming today's supercharged weed strains. One thing's for sure: today's weed is much more potent than the kind wafting about the steps of the Lincoln Memorial when POTUS Nixon made his infamous solo visit to talk football and politics with the Hippies who hung out there 24/7.Yes, madness does appear to at times reign supreme and certainly seems to be spreading. While AI-induced psychosis (yes, this is a thing) and our so-called "Leadership" alike aren't helping matters all that much, there is hope. People grow ever more aware and are becoming ever more weary of the litany of woes our elected government seems disinterested in doing much about.The silver lining, though, is in the growing urge amongst the Masses to Vote the Bums Out!

An entrepreneur and burgeoning public figure clearly on the ascendancy, several things ring abundantly true here: whether it's the unfortunate souls on the receiving end of a hurricane or tornado or the victims of human trafficking, Mariel cares enough that she's dedicating both her talents and enterprises toward helping solve the crises facing society with all she's got. Additionally, with her immense experience in catastrophe management/response in the private sector paired with nigh-unparalleled qualification through any quantifiable measure, your hosts (Crazy Eddie Magic & Jack) make her the perfect guest to elaborate on both the numerous crises facing society as well as how we can go about shaping our priorities in addressing "All of the Above" in the future.Whether it's driving across the East Coast in search of a U.S. Representative and Senator as-of-yet unawares of the massive, collective plight of their constituents or burning the midnight petrol in completing mission-critical documentation for homeowners amidst disaster, Mariel cares and can readily make the case on why you should, too (not dissimilar from "rising tides lift all boats", to a degree -- simple, yet accurate in many senses).We're greatly honored to have her back and hope she continues to find this a multimedia "home" of her own in the days and months and years ahead.
