Week 17 Have you closed with Jesus? An incredibly important question

Have you closed with Jesus? That’s the key question we tackle in this episode of Monday Devotions for Church Communicators. We dive deep into the core of what it means to engage in church communications work, emphasizing that it's not just about the tasks at hand but about nurturing a personal relationship with Jesus. We explore three powerful scriptures that remind us of the essential connection we need with Him to find purpose and strength in our work. If you’re feeling frustrated in your role, it might be time to reflect on your relationship with Jesus and consider whether you’ve truly made that commitment. Join us as we discuss how closing that personal transaction with Him can transform your approach to church communication and provide you with the support you need to thrive. Takeaways: Church communication is fundamentally about knowing Jesus personally and fostering that relationship. In our roles as church communicators, relying on Jesus empowers us to endure challenges and frustrations. Evaluating our relationship with Jesus is essential, similar to assessing our human relationships. The act of 'closing' with Jesus represents a serious commitment to turn over our lives to Him. Week 16 Sometimes ministry means being shut away

This week, we’re diving into the theme of doing new things in church communications, which can often feel like a lonely journey. Just like Noah, who followed God's commands even when others didn’t understand his work, we too may find ourselves in situations where our efforts aren’t recognized or appreciated. We’ll explore how advancements in technology have changed the landscape of church communications, making it easier to create impactful messages, but also isolating us in the process. I’ll share some insights on how to navigate those moments when your work is met with skepticism or indifference, reminding you that even when you're shut away, it’s an opportunity for growth and connection with God. Takeaways: This week's episode reminds us that doing new things in church communications can often feel isolating and challenging. We explored the importance of trusting God's plan, even when our work feels misunderstood or mocked. Just like Noah, we may work alone with new tools, but this can lead to effective communication. The podcast encourages us to see being shut away not as punishment, but as a chance to deepen our relationship with God. We should remember that even if others doubt the tools we use, they can lead to significant changes in church communication. Finally, the flood of work we face may actually be the beginning of a revival in our church community.

Week 15 Without love its just noise

This week, we're diving into a powerful reminder that love should be at the heart of everything we do as church communicators. Drawing from First Corinthians 13:1-3, we explore how actions devoid of love are just empty noise, no matter how impressive they might seem. I share some heartfelt examples from my experiences, illustrating how genuine care and creativity can transform church communications into meaningful connections. Whether it’s a lovingly crafted bulletin or a welcoming gesture for newcomers, the essence of our work lies in how we express love through our messages. Join me as we reflect on the importance of infusing our communications with warmth and intention, ensuring that our words truly resonate with those we serve. Takeaways: In this episode, we emphasize that love is essential in church communications, ensuring that our words resonate beyond mere noise. We reflect on how the mood and care of church communicators significantly impact the effectiveness of their messages. The importance of personalization in church bulletins is highlighted, showcasing how thoughtful touches can make recipients feel valued and loved. We discuss various creative expressions of love in church communications that foster community and connection among members and visitors. The episode closes with a prayer, underscoring the call for divine support in enhancing our church communications with love and care.

Week 14 Verses on what it means to be a servant of Jesus

Today, we’re diving into the concept of servanthood and what it really means for us as church communicators. At the heart of our discussion is the idea that our core identity is rooted in being servants, which can sometimes feel challenging given our human nature. We often crave recognition for our creativity and contributions, but true fulfillment comes when we embrace our role as servants, even when that recognition isn't there. We’ll explore several biblical verses that highlight this theme, reminding us that serving others is not just a duty but a pathway to peace and satisfaction. Join me as we reflect on how we can carry each other's burdens and serve with joy, making a real difference in our communities. Takeaways: As church communicators, our fundamental identity is rooted in servanthood, reflecting Christ's example. We often resist the idea of being a servant, but embracing this can lead to peace. The biblical verses shared serve as reminders that true greatness comes from serving others. Working enthusiastically, as if for the Lord, transforms our perspective on our roles. Carrying each other's burdens is a vital part of fulfilling the law of Christ. We should remember that Jesus, who calls us to serve, also provides the strength we need.

Week 13 You an ambassador in enemy occupied territory

Being an ambassador for Christ in a world that often feels like enemy-occupied territory is no small task, and that’s exactly what we’re diving into today. We explore how the values we hold as Christians can sometimes feel out of sync with those around us, but this isn’t a sign that something’s wrong with us; it’s just a reflection of reality. Drawing from Hebrews 11 and 2 Corinthians 5, we discuss how our mission is to communicate the truth about a kingdom that many can’t see or believe in. This episode encourages us to embrace our role as communicators of hope, urging us to reflect on how we can share our message with kindness and clarity, even in the face of misunderstanding. As we look ahead, we seek to be ambassadors worthy of our calling, committed to letting others know that the rightful King is coming back. Takeaways: This podcast emphasizes our role as ambassadors for Christ in a challenging world. We are reminded that our values may clash with the surrounding culture, yet that's normal. The struggle to communicate the message of hope to a skeptical audience is real and ongoing. Faithful communication involves reflecting the hope we have while acknowledging our alien status here. As ambassadors, we should create messages that point towards the return of our rightful King. Prayer is highlighted as essential for our ministries, especially when facing hostility.

Week 12 Our Communications Need to Reflect Grace, not Judgement

Our focus today is on how our communication as church leaders should reflect the redeeming nature of our Lord rather than a tone of condemnation. This week, we’re diving into John 3:17, where we see that God didn’t send Jesus to condemn the world, but to save it. This verse serves as a powerful reminder of the attitude we should adopt in our ministry—one of hope and love, rather than judgment. We’ll explore the example set by Jesus in his interactions with Nicodemus and discuss how we can emulate that approach when communicating with others. As we go through this week, let’s pray for clarity in our words and strive to embody the welcoming spirit of Christ in all our messages. Takeaways: This podcast emphasizes that our communication should reflect God's redeeming nature rather than condemnation. The key verse discussed is John 3:17, highlighting that Jesus came to save, not condemn. We are reminded to approach our ministry with love, focusing on hope instead of guilt. It's crucial for communicators to pray for clarity and ensure their tone reflects Jesus' welcoming love. We should avoid piling on guilt and instead offer examples of hope and love to those we serve. The importance of sharing the good news of salvation and fulfillment in Jesus is emphasized throughout the episode.

Week 11: Pride, a temptation when we forget the real reasons for the success of our work

Pride can be a sneaky temptation, especially for church communicators who might forget the true source of their success. In this episode, I discuss the dangers of pride and how it can creep into our work, particularly as we navigate the evolving landscape of church communications. Drawing from several powerful biblical passages, I'll highlight the importance of humility and the need to focus on the mission rather than the medium. We often get caught up in the aesthetics of our communications, but what truly matters is whether they lead people to know Jesus and grow in their faith. Join me as we explore how to keep our hearts aligned with God’s purpose in our work, reminding ourselves that it’s not about our skills or tools, but about reaching and serving those in need. Takeaways: Pride is a subtle temptation that can undermine the real purpose of church communications, which is to connect people with God. The quality of church communication should be measured by its impact on spiritual growth, not just by aesthetic appeal or professional design. In church communications, meeting the needs of the congregation is paramount, regardless of the quality of design or production. Even simple communications can lead to significant spiritual impact when they focus on bringing people closer to Jesus. It's essential for church communicators to remember that their effectiveness is rooted in humility and service, not in pride or superior skills.

Week 10: Often the only thanks we get for our communications work is from the Lord

This week, we're diving into a vital truth for church communicators: often the only thanks we get for our hard work comes from the Lord. We explore the message behind Numbers 18:20, where God tells Aaron that He is their inheritance. It's a reminder that our efforts in creating communications—whether it’s bulletins, newsletters, or websites—may go unnoticed, yet they play a crucial role in sharing God's message. I share an example of a church secretary who revamped her bulletin, only to find that the improvements went largely unacknowledged. It turns out that when our communications are well-designed and effective, the focus shifts away from us and onto the message itself, which ultimately helps the church grow and lives change. So, let's remember that even when we don't receive recognition, the Lord sees our work and that should be our true motivation. Takeaways: This episode highlights that true appreciation for communication work often comes from the Lord rather than from people. We discuss how effective design should be invisible, allowing the message to shine through without distractions. The best church communications prioritize clarity and functionality over excessive artistic flair that complicates the message. Our work may go unnoticed, but we find joy in serving, knowing that our true reward comes from God. Links referenced in this episode: www.effectivechurchcom.com (https://www.effectivechurchcom.com)

Week 9: You are one of the Great Ones and far more important than you imagine

You are the Great Ones, and far more crucial than you might think. In our ninth week of Monday Devotions for Church Communicators, we dive into the idea that those of us working behind the scenes in the church—like creating bulletins, newsletters, and social media posts—are vital to the Kingdom of God. I share a moving story from C.S. Lewis’ *The Great Divorce*, highlighting how true significance often lies in humble service, something many of us overlook. We discuss how even the smallest acts of communication can lead to profound changes in people's lives and their journeys toward faith. Join me for a heartfelt prayer and encouragement as we recognize the importance of our roles and the eternal impact we can make through our work. Takeaways: In this episode, we highlight how church communicators often undervalue their essential roles in ministry. We explore the inspiration from Daniel 12:3, emphasizing the eternal impact of wise actions. The narrative from CS Lewis's 'The Great Divorce' illustrates the contrast between earthly fame and true greatness. We encourage listeners to recognize their contributions to the church as vital and significant in God's Kingdom. Every bulletin or newsletter created can serve as a crucial piece of Christian outreach to newcomers. We remind church communicators that their work has eternal consequences, shaping lives for years to come. Week 8: Verses on Discipline

Discipline is the key theme we're diving into today, and it's essential for anyone working in church communications. We all know that the job can get overwhelming with distractions coming from every direction, but building a disciplined approach can help us stay focused and effective. Throughout this episode, I’ll share some powerful verses from Proverbs and Ephesians that highlight the importance of discipline in our lives. As we explore these scriptures, I encourage you to think about how you can apply them to your work and daily routine. By embracing discipline, we not only enhance our productivity but also align ourselves more closely with our purpose in serving others and spreading the message of faith. Let’s take a moment to reflect on this together and aim to incorporate discipline into our lives as we move forward. Takeaways: Discipline is crucial for church communicators to effectively manage their time and tasks. Proverbs teaches us that ignoring discipline can lead to negative consequences in our lives. Incorporating discipline into our routines helps us resist distractions and stay focused on our mission. We need to actively seek wisdom and discipline as outlined in Proverbs to enhance our work. Week 7: Difficulties and testing are as much a part of God's plan as blessings

Difficulties and testing are just as much a part of God's plan as blessings, and that's the focus of our discussion today. We dive into how challenges in church communications can feel overwhelming, yet they serve a vital purpose in our growth and dependence on God. Drawing from Scripture, we explore the importance of these trials, pointing out that even Jesus faced testing in the desert. It’s easy to forget that our struggles can lead to valuable lessons and spiritual growth, helping us to become more effective in our ministry. As we navigate through these tough times, let’s remember that we’re not alone; we have the promise of God’s presence and support in our work. Takeaways: Difficulties and tests in our lives are integral to God's plan for growth and understanding. The podcast emphasizes that even during our struggles, we can find purpose and strength in our faith. Real growth often comes from facing challenges that push us to rely on God's guidance. The importance of learning new skills is highlighted, especially when faced with technical difficulties in communication. Jesus and the Israelites faced trials but ultimately moved into their purpose, reminding us that struggles are temporary. We are encouraged to support one another in our ministries, as these challenges can help us encourage others in their faith. Week 6: Make your communications a joy to receive

This week, we're diving into the idea of making our church communications a joy to receive. We take a close look at how Jesus was heard with delight and enjoyment, and we challenge ourselves to reflect that same joy in our messages. It’s essential to remember that our communications should be good news, crafted in a way that resonates with our audience, whether that’s through vibrant visuals or simply clear, easy-to-read formats. We explore various approaches tailored to different groups, from middle school students to busy parents, emphasizing the importance of meeting their needs with our communications. As we brainstorm and create, let’s keep a light heart, inviting joy into our work and ensuring our messages are received gladly. Takeaways: This episode encourages us to infuse joy into our church communications, making them enjoyable for all. Listening to Jesus was a delight for the crowd, which challenges us to communicate with similar joy. Creating effective communications means understanding your audience, whether it's kids or business professionals. We should brainstorm ways to create communications that meet the needs of our diverse audience. Utilizing modern tools like social media can help us reach younger audiences more effectively. Week 5: A clean heart is an essential part of preparing for church communications work

A clean heart is an essential part of preparing for church communications work, and that's the crux of today's discussion. We dive into the insights from 2nd Chronicles 29:11, where King Hezekiah encourages the priests to purify themselves and the temple before engaging in worship. Just like the priests had to confront their internal and external challenges, we also need to reflect on what might be holding us back in our roles as church communicators. Whether it’s letting go of negative attitudes or ensuring we’re using our tools ethically, the journey to purification is crucial. By addressing these areas, we can approach our work with renewed joy and purpose, ready to serve effectively. Takeaways: A clean heart is essential for effective church communication, as highlighted by 2nd Chronicles 29:11. Before we can serve effectively, we must purify ourselves and our tools for ministry. Confessing our shortcomings allows us to function better in our callings, both personally and professionally. Just like the priests, we need to examine our hearts to ensure we are not holding onto negativity. Purifying our digital workspace is just as important as our spiritual readiness in church communications. Each week, this podcast aims to encourage and equip church communicators with practical insights and prayers.

Week 4: Pray Boldly: Understanding God's Requirements for Answered Prayer

Today's episode dives into the vital topic of prayer, focusing on Matthew 7:7, which emphasizes the importance of asking, seeking, and knocking. We explore how to approach prayer in a way that aligns with God’s will, stressing that our motives matter significantly. It’s crucial to understand that our prayers should not stem from selfish desires but rather from a heart that seeks to do good and serve others. We also discuss how immersing ourselves in God's Word can shape our prayers and help us align our desires with His. Lastly, we remind ourselves that even when we struggle to pray, the Holy Spirit is there to guide us, ensuring our prayers are heard and understood by God. Takeaways: Prayer is a powerful tool, but we must align our motives with God's will for effective communication. Being immersed in God's Word helps us pray in accordance with His desires and intentions. To receive answers to our prayers, we need to remove negativity and focus on serving those in need. The Holy Spirit actively aids us in our prayers, particularly when we don't know what to say. Maintaining a joyful and thankful attitude while praying continually is vital for a fulfilling spiritual life. We are encouraged to boldly approach prayer, recognizing it as a privilege that can transform our lives.

Week 3: You are accepted and loved before you create your communications

You are accepted and loved before you create your communications. This week, we dive into the comforting reminder that our worth is not tied to our performance or the reactions of others. Drawing inspiration from Matthew 3:16, we explore how Jesus began his ministry grounded in God's love, and how we too can approach our work with that same assurance. It's essential to remember that while we strive for tangible results in our church communications, our value remains constant regardless of our earthly success or failures. So, let’s embrace this truth, pray for wisdom, and trust that our messages will achieve the purpose for which they are sent. Takeaways: In the podcast, we emphasize that our acceptance and love from God come before any work we do. Jesus's ministry began with assurance of God's love, reminding us of our own divine acceptance. We should measure our efforts responsibly, but remember that true impact may not be visible until eternity. Trust in God's promise that our words and work will fulfill His purpose, even when we feel inadequate. It's crucial to pray for guidance and support as we navigate the challenges of church communication. The podcast encourages us to embrace our roles with joy and confidence, knowing we are loved and accepted.

    Week 2: Real Support, 24/7

Today, we're diving into the idea of real 24/7 support (from our Lord), and how it contrasts sharply with the automated responses we often encounter in the tech world. When you reach out for help, it can feel like you're stuck in a loop of robotic messages that lead you nowhere. But on the flip side, God's support is personal, immediate, and always available—He promises to answer us when we call. Throughout this episode, we discuss how we can seek divine wisdom and encouragement, especially when the challenges of church communication feel overwhelming. It’s all about remembering that we’re not alone in this journey; we have a source of strength and guidance that’s ready to help us tackle our daily tasks and frustrations. Join me as we explore how to lean into that support and keep our spirits lifted. Takeaways: God's promise of support is personal and unconditional, unlike automated responses from tech companies. We often have the skills needed but struggle with the process; God can provide clarity. It's important to reach out to God first for help, rather than as a last resort. When feeling overwhelmed, remember that seeking God's wisdom can lead to breakthroughs. God cares about every detail of our work, no matter how small or insignificant it seems.

Week 1: Reality of our situation—challenging spiritual warfare

Today, we’re diving into the reality of spiritual warfare, and it’s a topic that we feel is incredibly important for anyone involved in church communications. We’re reminded in Ephesians 6:12-13 that our struggle isn’t against flesh and blood, but against darker forces that seek to disrupt our mission. It's a serious battle out there, and as church communicators, our role is central in this fight. We talk about how the enemy often targets our communication efforts, which makes our work so much more than just updating a website or managing social media. But here’s the hopeful part: despite the challenges we face, we’re not alone in this. We can draw strength from God’s word and know that victory is assured because of Jesus’s finished work on the cross. Let’s embrace our calling with joy and passion, keeping our eyes on the ultimate victory that awaits us. In the podcast, we tackle the challenging theme of spiritual warfare and its implications for church communicators. Highlighting Ephesians 6:12-13, we reflect on the idea that our struggles are not just physical but deeply spiritual. This perspective reshapes how we view our daily tasks—it's not just about managing church communications, but about engaging in a spiritual fight where communication is a critical battleground. The podcast talks about the obstacles we face, from technical issues to interpersonal conflicts, and how these can often distract us from our mission. The discussion emphasizes that while the enemy seeks to sow discord, we have the tools—the 'armor of God'—to protect ourselves and continue our work with joy and determination. We remind our listeners that despite the ongoing fight, the war has already been won through Jesus, encouraging them to remain steadfast and hopeful as they fulfill their vital roles in the church community. Takeaways: In the realm of spiritual warfare, our struggle isn't against mere people, but against powerful forces of evil. Church communication is a vital front in spiritual warfare, essential for the victory of the church. Remembering that the war has already been won can inspire us to fight with hope and strength. Our true source of help comes from God, not from resources or technology we might wish for. It's important to approach our work with joy and passion, knowing that we play a crucial role in God's plan. Encouragement from scripture can empower us in our daily battles, helping us to maintain perspective.
