Where Biology Meets Bias — One Founder’s Mission to Make Medicine Work for Women | Mosaic Minds Podcast Ep. 29
What does it look like to build a healthcare company from the conviction that medicine, as it stands, was never fully designed for women?
In this episode, host My Holland sits down with Thao Nguyen, CEO and co-founder of EQUAL CARE, a Swiss-based startup working to make sex and gender-specific medicine the standard in healthcare. Thao grew up in Germany as the daughter of Vietnamese boat people — a background that gave her both a sense of obligation toward her opportunities and a deep awareness of what it means to navigate theworld as someone consistently underestimated. She built a 12-year career in technology consulting and medical device research and development before stepping out to found a company she believes the world needs.
EQUAL CARE is working to close the gap between what research knows about biological and physiological differences between men and women and what actually reachespatients. 75% of medications do not work the same for men and women, and the majority of that disparity disadvantages women — a consequence, in part, of women being banned from clinical trials between the 1970s and the mid-1990s.Thao’s work centers on finding, certifying, and labelling medications that have been adequately tested on women, and making that information accessible to patients and healthcare providers alike.

Beyond Diplomacy: Josefine Wallat on Leadership, Culture & Finding Your Voice | Mosaic Minds
What does it mean to spend 25 years navigating bureaucracy, borders, and belonging and to find that the most important negotiations have always been personal?
In this episode, host My Holland sits down with Dr. Josefine Wallat, who grew up in West Berlin during the Cold War, the daughter of a German father and a Czech mother. She enrolled at university the autumn the Berlin Wall came down, studied political science, and went on to build a career in the German Foreign Office that has taken her from policy planning in Berlin, to Shanghai, to six years as Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City, and now onward to Guangzhou. She describes herself as an Indiana Jones navigating a jungle of bureaucracy and she means it as a quiet kind of pride.
Along the way, she has raised two children who were born in China and now speak Czech as a third-generation inheritance, learned and half-forgotten more languages than most people attempt, and come to understand that the best diplomacy is not about being pleasan, it is about achieving results.
Dr. Wallat reminds us that cultural intelligence is not something you study in a manual. It is something you live gradually, imperfectly, and with a willingness to keep being the person who does not quite fit the room.

From Post-War Roots to a Healing Economy - A Vietnamese Entrepreneur's Vision for the Future | Mosaic Minds Podcast Ep. 27
MosaicMinds Podcast - Episode 27 | Guest: Lê Kim | Founder, CL2B
What does it mean to build an economy that heals rather than harms? And what happens when the drive to create impact is tangled up with generational survival instincts that tell you profit is safety and scarcity is always around the corner?
In this episode, host My Holland sits down with Lê Kim, an environmental economist, systems thinker, and founder of CL2B, whose path from a working-class family in Nghệ An to becoming a pioneering voice in circular economy across Southeast Asia has been anything but linear. Kim grew up in a household shaped by the quiet weight of post-war poverty, a mother whose ambitions were never fully met by the world around her, and a father whose one piece of wisdom she has carried through every career decision: never harm others for your own benefit. She left for the UK at 21, working kitchen shifts until midnight and sleeping four hours a night to fund her tuition, before slowly finding her footing in a culture that eventually gave her something unexpected - a deep sense of self, shaped in part by the artists she befriended and observed.
Today, Kim works at the intersection of circular economy, equity, and systems change, asking corporations and leaders not just what their sustainability roadmap looks like, but what future they actually want their children to inherit. Her work draws from the Global South perspective she has had to defend, knowing that most corporate sustainability strategy is written in the Northern Hemisphere with little room for what communities in Vietnam actually need.
Kim's story is a reminder that transformation rarely starts with a strategy. It starts with the courage to ask whether the world you are building is the one you actually believe in.
