(upbeat music) - Hey, we're kicking off a new series this week called The Darkness, The Darkness. Seems like a strange series for a church, maybe, but I promise it's gonna make sense. By darkness, let me explain what I mean. By darkness, imagine kind of an umbrella of emotional parasites, right? Or these mental parasites that are dormant most often in our lives. They do, they flare up from time to time, they pop up, and that would be the things that, different expressions of the darkness, but ultimately all of these things would be under an umbrella that I would consider the darkness. Anybody anxious all the time, right? Anxiety, I couple these two, because I think they obviously go hand in hand. And it's funny because we're often lonely because we isolate ourselves, and we can't figure out why we're lonely.

Joyful Noise — Week 3: It’s Not Too Late
Bieber asked, "Is it too late now to say sorry?" and OneRepublic answered, "It's too late to apologize." When it comes to God, the answer is different: it's never too late. Jesus said there's joy in the presence of the angels over one sinner who repents. So this week in Joyful Noise we look at a sound that might seem strange on the list but brings real joy to God: the sound of confession.
At its simplest, confession means admitting you've missed the mark. But the word in 1 John 1:9 goes deeper. It means "to say the same thing as another." Confession is an apology that leads to agreement: God, Your way is the right way, and I didn't live up to it. So keep confessing until you're in full agreement with Him. You can agree your way into freedom. David's raw prayer in Psalm 51 shows us what that looks like.
Two ways to make this joyful noise:
Confession to God brings forgiveness. Confession is the foundation of salvation and the key that opens the door to forgiveness. Through that door come peace, joy, and freedom from shame and guilt. Confession to each other brings accountability. James 5:16 says to confess to one another and pray for one another so that you may be healed. Pick your "one anothers" carefully: people who love you, keep it to themselves, and take it straight to Jesus in prayer. And be specific so they know how to pray.
Wherever you've been and however far you've run, it only takes one step to get back to the foot of the cross. It's not too late.

Joyful Noise — Week 4: Don’t Stop Me If You’ve Heard This One
Motion Church turns 15! To wrap up Joyful Noise on our birthday Sunday, we look at a sound God loves to hear: your story. Revelation 12:11 says they overcame "by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony." Someone who has an experience with God is never at the mercy of someone who only has an argument about God. Some stories are worth repeating, so don't stop me if you've heard these.
Five stories from 15 years of Motion Church, each with a lesson:
The time we flooded the church. When the enemy comes in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord lifts up a standard against him (Isaiah 59:19). The time we almost set the church on fire. Fire refines. Your trials are proving your faith and making you stronger (1 Peter 1:7). The time a confetti cannon broke my arm the night before our 4th birthday. God can use broken, hurting people. Your sin never outpaces His grace. The time God confirmed we were on the right track. With $100 in the bank and $2,700 due Monday, a $3,000 check showed up just in time. If it's God's will, it's God's bill. The time God spoke while I was grinding glue off the floor. "I will build My church, and the gates of hell will not prevail against it." It was true then, it's true now, and the best is yet to come.
The message closes with a letter written to the first Motion team in February 2011, seven months before the church launched. Happy 15th birthday, Motion Church!
