Mouth-Off 2.09: BONUS - The Welsh Christmas Capers - Welsh Folklore • AAC • Creativity
On this special bonus episode of MOUTH-OFF, we take a festive detour into the world of Welsh folklore, winter traditions, Celtic music, storytelling and inclusive creativity. Although it's June rather than December, we're incredibly proud of The Welsh Christmas Capers, a National Lottery HERITAGE FUND-supported project delivered by RCT Learning Curve in partnership with Forget-Me-Not Productions and Word Groove Collective. Following the project's evaluation in May, we wanted to share some of the creative work that emerged along the way. Over the past year, participants from Gadlys, Llwynypia and Ty Draw Day Services explored Welsh winter traditions including Mari Lwyd, Plygain, Calennig and Noson Gyflaith through music, film-making, storytelling, performance, cookery, visual arts and assistive technology. In this episode you'll hear excerpts from the project's films, original songs, documentary features and audio story, alongside reflections on how participants brought Welsh heritage to life through their own creativity and communication styles. From rhyme battles and horse skulls (seriously) to magical toffee, ghostly carols and original songs, this is a celebration of Welsh culture, collaboration and imagination. ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS The Welsh Christmas Capers was delivered by RCT Learning Curve in partnership with Forget-Me-Not Productions and Word Groove Collective, with funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund. Special thanks to the participants, families and staff at Gadlys, Llwynypia and Ty Draw Day Services whose creativity, enthusiasm and contributions made the project possible. All media clips, films, documentary features, audio productions and project content featured in this episode were produced by Forget-Me-Not Productions as part of The Welsh Christmas Capers. "Dancing with Your Heart" is performed by Word Groove Collective. Lyrics by Gavin Clifton. Music by Clary Saddler. On this episode of Mouth-Off I chat to AL STEELE, JAMES WARREN of THE KORGIS, and author, lyricist, disability rights activist and MOTIVATIONAL SPEAKER & AAC USER, GAVIN CLIFTON. AL, JAMES, and GAVIN each bring a unique perspective on CREATIVITY, SONGWRITING, and the power of MUSIC to connect people. GAVIN collaborates with host CLARY SADDLER through WORD GROOVE COLLECTIVE, where he writes lyrics and advocates for greater ACCESSIBILITY and representation for people who use AUGMENTATIVE AND ALTERNATIVE COMMUNICATION (AAC). We get to here their creative journeys, the stories behind their work, and the ways music can inspire, challenge, and bring people together. We also explore a wide range of topics including SONGWRITING, SYNC PLACEMENT, COLLABORATION, the changing MUSIC INDUSTRY, DISABILITY RIGHTS, ACCESSIBILITY IN THE ARTS, creative influences, and the importance of finding and maintaining your own ARTISTIC VOICE. We also play a round of "SYNC OR SINK?", putting our guests' music industry instincts to the test, and delve into the world of DIEGETIC and NON-DIEGETIC MUSIC, exploring how music functions within film, television, and other media. It's a lively and thought-provoking conversation packed with insights, humour, industry knowledge, and plenty of musical stories along the way. Mouth-Off 2.07: The Artist and the Algorithm
In this episode of Mouth-Off, we dive headfirst into one of the biggest creative debates of our time: AI threat or liberation? Voice-cloning. AI music. Text-to-speech. Plagiarism panic. Copyright chaos. We’ve heard the dystopian headlines. But what happens when AI isn’t replacing creativity — it’s enabling it? 🎧 In this episode A frank personal reflection on using AI as a disabled-led creative (when is it a helper, and when is it a hijacker?) Original interviews with: • Gavin Clifton – author and AAC user who successfully challenged ACX to allow TTS narration of his memoir • Mr X – non-verbal musician working with eyegaze tech and hybrid AI vocal blending • Clip from BBC Access All featuring Sarah Ezekiel and her son discussing AI-assisted art and identity • Queer musician and author Corporate Christ (featured in a previous Mouth-Off episode) shares a reimagined track using Suno AI Two creative tracks using assistive or AI-enhanced tools: • Unreal Reality – co-written by Clary Saddler and Gavin Clifton for Word Groove Collective (sync brief) https://soundcloud.com/wordgroovecollective • Only Love – featuring lyrics and eyegaze instrumentation by Mr X, vocals by Clary Saddler Instrumental: Whimsical – composed by Mr X and Clary Saddler Audio reference to viral fake Drake track (AI-generated) and the ethical uproar it sparked A candid “interview” with ChatGPT — sort of — on what it means to assist, not create Show notes written with ChatGPT… though frankly, after the back-and-forth, it might’ve been quicker to do it myself 🎵 ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS Theme music: Intro and Outro by Clary Saddler Featuring: • Unreal Reality – by Gavin Clifton & Clary Saddler (for Word Groove Collective) https://soundcloud.com/wordgroovecollective • Only Love – Mr X featuring Clary Saddler • Whimsical – by Mr X and Clary Saddler • Clip from BBC’s Access All (Sarah Ezekiel interview): https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m001tklw • Corporate Christ AI-enhanced track: Palestine (Suno Reimagining) https://open.spotify.com/artist/2PlLbbxsb1KLU2C1kZ8yFZ • Excerpt of viral fake Drake AI track: Heart on My Sleeve (Originally by anonymous creator Ghostwriter977) All SFX: from Pixabay (royalty-free) 📍 Follow us: https://linktr.ee/clarysaddler Facebook: @FMNproductionsUK X (Twitter): @1_forget Instagram: @forgetmenotclary Pen & Sword Books: https://www.pen-and-sword.co.uk/Clary-Saddler/a/5898 📝 Follow Clary’s author content: Threads & Instagram: @clary.writes TikTok: @clarywrites X (Twitter): @clary_cwtch
