The Allure of the Bad Movie: Why We Love Troll 2, The Room, and other famous flops
Why do we love bad movies? Is it the terrible acting, bizarre plots, or practical effects gone awry? On this episode of Movies and a Microphone, we are diving into the weird-but-charming world of bad horror films, cult classics and other B-movies.
Our panel talks about Troll 2, The Room, and other favorites like Birdemic, Sharknado, and Plan 9 from Outer Space. Plus: a real-or-fake B-movie quiz featuring some truly ridiculous movie titles. (Blood Car? Meth Gator?? Bambi: The Reckoning???)

Episode 55: How Mickey7 Became Mickey 17
Edward Ashton’s Mickey7 took a wildly unlikely path to the big screen. Before the book was even published, Warner Bros. optioned it. Then Bong Joon Ho signed on to direct, with Robert Pattinson starring in Mickey 17.
Following a sold-out screening at The Little Theatre, Scott Pukos talks with Ashton about bringing his novel to the screen.
Ashton discusses his relationship with Bong, the scene he insisted had to remain in the film, Pattinson’s performance, the inspiration behind the creepers, and why the movie needed more deaths than the book.
Ashton also speaks about his eight novel, the Fourth Consort, released shortly after the film's debut.
Since this conversation was recorded, Ashton has released a new novel, After the Fall, about a future where aliens have turned humans into pets. His next novel, Mickey Prime, is expected in March of 2027.
