[…] Now, historically, mortgage rates run about 1 .4 to 1 .7 % higher than the teen year treasury. That difference is called spread. Now, lately, the spread has been a lot wider, closer to 2%. Actually, when the spread widens, it means mortgage rates can stay high even if the treasury year does start to come down. So this move is designed to help narrow that spread, basically to say, we want mortgage rates to behave more like historically like they do and not stay artificially elevated. Now, one of the organizations pushing this idea is going to be the community home limits of America. They have said that a move like this could reduce mortgage rates by around 0 .3%. […]
