We land this week on our theme passage not only for our series, but also for our Word of the Year- Depth. Paul encourages the Colossian church to not just stop after they "received Christ Jesus as Lord" but to continue to "live in him." He challenges them to make following Jesus a part of their ongoing lives as they are "rooted and built up in him."

Mystery- Colossians 1:24-2:5
Three times in this passage, Paul mentions the word mystery. While this word may bring to mind deep unsolvable things or a "whodunnit" case, this is simply something that was once hidden now being revealed, it doesn't necessarily have to be something that is hard to understand or grasp. Paul encourages the church in Colossae that this mystery, that Jesus, the risen living Messiah, is in them. What a great revelation, that we are united with Christ!

Supreme- Colossians 1:15-23
Last week we began our series through Colossians seeing how God the Father has "rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves..." Paul continues to unpack both who Jesus is and what he has done as we move further into his letter to the believers in Colossae. Ultimately, the statement Paul makes of Jesus should be true of him in our lives- "...in everything he might have supremacy."

The Building Project- Nehemiah 2-12
We end our Ordinary People, Extraordinary God series covering a huge section of the Nehemiah's project to restore the walls of Jerusalem. The extraordinary God moves in incredible ways through ordinary people as they come alongside one another to accomplish something much bigger than themselves. Beyond the actual physical work, the Lord draws them into worship and grants them wisdom to not only do the work, but protect it as well.

Ask Big- Nehemiah 1-2:10
Our Ordinary People, Extraordinary God series comes to end as we spend a few weeks with Nehemiah. While his position as cupbearer to the King may seem like far from ordinary position, the desire of Nehemiah’s heart he expresses to the King is going to require a move of the Extraordinary God. He sets the stage for this “big ask” by preparing in prayer and worship, discerning the Lord’s leading and then responding by acting in faith. We can too.

Depth Colossians 2:6-7
We will be celebrating in worship this week by reconnecting with our word of the year Depth. In Colossians 2, Paul encourages the church to continue to follow Jesus being "rooted and built up in him." Depth then produces fruit of faith and thanksgiving.

1 Kings 19
Originally the sermon was to focus on God meeting Elijah in his moment of discouragement and defeat. That the Lord doesn't come in the grand display of power, but rather in the still small voice, but between services on Sunday the Holy Spirit drew us more toward the call of Elisha at the end of 1 Kings 19 and to examine what oxen and plows are holding us back.

How Long? 1 Kings 18:16-40
In 1 Kings 18, Elijah confronts the people of Israel and asks the question “How long will you waver between two options?” He’s calling them out on their divided commitment to both the Lord and Baal. The Lord proceeds to make it abundantly clear that he alone is God. We may not be dealing with golden statues or carved idols, but we can often find ourselves wavering between the things of this world and our commitment to God- are we being asked the same question- How long?

Provision- 1 Kings 17
In the book of James, Elijah is referred to as "a man just like us"- sounds pretty ordinary! The Extraordinary God has no rival, he alone is Creator and Sustainer. Israel's leadership when we meet Elijah has turned their back on God and have led the people to worship false gods- who were believed to provide the rains that made the land fertile, herds to prosper and people to thrive. God proves through Elijah that he alone is the God who provides life and care for creation.

IN10TIONAL
Many times throughout the Gospels we see Jesus go away to the solitary place- the quiet and lonely place, but he was far from alone. Jesus went there to intentionally spend time with the Father.
Today, Pastor Zack challenges us to follow Jesus in this practice.
