Mrs O Investigates
What if the past wasn't finished with us?
Mrs O Investigates is a limited-series investigative podcast. Each season, Mrs O takes one story — a man, a book, a movement, a moment — and walks you carefully through what it meant then, and what it's quietly telling us now.
Hosted by Mrs O (Nat Olivier).

SEASON ONE: The Fall of Jerusalem — Josephus and the End of the World
In 70 AD, the holy city of the ancient world burned to the ground. The Second Temple — the beating heart of Judaism — was reduced to rubble. A million people died in one of the bloodiest sieges in history. And from the ashes, one man emerged with a quill in his hand. A Jewish priest turned Roman survivor named Flavius Josephus — perhaps the only man in history to take notes while his civilisation collapsed.
Was he a hero? A traitor? A prophet with a front-row seat to doom? Two thousand years later, we're still arguing about which one he was — and his witness has never mattered more.
Across ten episodes, Mrs O walks you chapter by chapter through The Jewish War — the corrupt procurators, the false messiahs, the factions tearing the holy city apart from the inside, the prophecies fulfilled in real time, the siege, the fire, and the silence that came after.
Then she turns the page to 2026. To red heifers flown in from Texas. To the Iran–Israel war. Temple Mount tensions are on a knife-edge. To the movements — Jewish on one hand, Christian on the other — quietly assembling the pieces of a story Josephus already wrote down once.
History doesn't repeat. But it certainly knows how to rhyme.

I'm Mrs O. See you inside the walls.
In January of eighteen ninety-five, an Austro-Hungarian journalist named Theodor Herzl was in Paris on assignment for the Viennese newspaper Neue Freie Presse, covering the public degradation of Captain Alfred Dreyfus. Dreyfus was a French Jewish artillery officer who had been convicted of treason on evidence that was, and remained, thin. As the ceremony proceeded — Dreyfus's rank insignia torn from his uniform, his sword broken across an officer's knee — Herzl heard the crowd outside the Éco...

BONUS 2- CI SCOFIELD: The Man, The Book, The Long Shadow (CI Scofield)
In 1909, Oxford University Press released a study Bible with margin notes that would eventually change how most English-speaking Christians worldwide read the Book of Revelation. Its editor was Cyrus Ingerson Scofield — a former Confederate soldier, disgraced U.S. District Attorney, and Saint Louis jailbird who walked out of an alcoholic collapse in 1879 and never went back. Its framework came from an Anglo-Irish clergyman named John Nelson Darby, who broke with the Church of Ireland in 1827 ...

BONUS 1 — THE HOUSE OF HEROD (Herodian Dynasty)
One family, one hundred and thirty years, one throne — and every one of them died afraid. The dynasty that built the Second Temple, killed most of their own children, presided at John the Baptist's beheading, executed the apostle James, and heard Paul's defence. Herod the Great through Berenice and Agrippa II. Told at Josephus's scale, with the discipline of the New Testament and the KJV. A paid bonus chapter for Season 1. EPISODE 10 - Josephus's Last Words, and the Strange Corners of 2026
Season One is finished. Tinfoil hats on. Ten episodes ago, a Jewish general walked out of a burning cave in Galilee. Tonight, we walk out of Season One with him — with the closing words of Antiquities of the Jews on the desk, and the strange corners of twenty twenty-six landing where our first-century material has been landing all season. In this finale we walk: • The state of the world in September twenty twenty-six — the US missile that hit a wedding in Kuhestak, Iran on the first of Septem...

EPISODE 9 — WHAT JOSEPHUS MISSED: The Christian Story in the Flames
Josephus mentioned Jesus twice. Neither passage settled the question for the next nineteen hundred years. Episode Nine walks the disputed Testimonium Flavianum, the accepted James passage, and everything Josephus knew but did not record — the Christian church running underneath his own account. Then we walk the early Church Fathers' readings of AD 70: judgment, fulfilment, warning. Plus the modern parallel — how to read the signs of the times without falling into date-setting or despair. Mrs ...

EPISODE 8 — AFTERMATH: THE BIRTH OF A NEW ERA
If you walk into the Roman Forum today, on any given morning of any given month, and stand at the eastern end where the Via Sacra rises out of the ancient market square toward the Palatine Hill, you will see a single small triumphal arch. Built around eighty-one A.D. by the Emperor Domitian to commemorate his brother Titus. On its inner south panel, carved in stone still visible after nineteen centuries, is a procession of Roman legionaries carrying a menorah, a table of showbread, and a set...

EPISODE 7 — MASADA — THE MOUNTAIN THAT WOULD NOT COME DOWN

If you or someone you know is struggling, please reach out to a trusted person or to Lifeline (13 11 14 in Australia). Psalm 34:18 — the Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart. "Now as Eleazar was proceeding on in this exhortation, they all cut him off short, and made haste to do the work…" That was Josephus. Jewish ...

EPISODE 6 - The Temple Burns
August, 70 AD. The day the world changed. The Second Temple — the beating heart of ancient Judaism, the building Christ Himself had stood inside and warned would not have one stone left upon another — burned to the ground in a fire the Romans, according to their own commanding general, did not order. Episode Six walks the last month of the Temple in careful detail, with Josephus, Tacitus, Sulpicius Severus, and the two communities that walked out of the ashes. ”Now, as soon as the army had no...

EPISODE 3 - The Spark That Lit the Fire — Spring and Summer of 66 AD
In the spring of 66 AD, in the port city of Caesarea, a Greek man walked up to the entrance of the local synagogue with an upside-down chamber pot. He set it down in front of the door. On top of it, he sacrificed several birds. It was the Sabbath. That single act of deliberate desecration — combined with a Roman procurator too corrupt to intervene, a Temple treasury raided in broad daylight, and a comedian's joke about "poor Florus" that led to three thousand six hundred dead in the streets...

EPISODE 2 - From Pompey to Prophets — Fractured Faith, False Messiahs, and Foreshadowed Flames
In 63 BC, a Roman general named Pompey walked into the Holy of Holies — the most sacred room in the Jewish world. He didn't loot. He didn't desecrate the altar. But the door had been opened. The fence around the Holy of Holies had been kicked over. Jewish independence was finished. Episode 2 walks the long road from that moment to the world Jesus was born into. From Pompey in 63 BC to the Roman procurators of the first century, the five Jewish factions that would tear the country apart, the ...

One man walked out of a burning Jerusalem alive. A million others didn't. In the autumn of 70 AD, the Romans destroyed the Second Temple and burned the holy city to the ground. It was written by a Jewish priest from Jerusalem who, somehow, ended up sitting inside the Roman general's tent — taking notes while his city burned. His name was Josephus.
