To Love Our Neighbor Is To Not Hold Grudges (Matthew 22:34-42)
Jesus is not just a moral teacher, but the Son of God and the giver of life. Jesus shows us the path to wholeness and abundant eternal life through loving the Lord God and loving our neighbor as ourselves. The quality of love that Jesus calls us to is not simply tolerating others, but resisting grudges by approaching those who harm us so that bitterness does simmer into hatred and harm.

Clothed In Wedding Clothes Of Love (Matthew 22:1-14)
The parable of the wedding banquet is among a series of parables that Jesus speaks to the priests and elders of Jerusalem about the Kingdom that he will bring as the Messiah. As the church, we are reminded that even if we come to the wedding banquet, we must be “clothed in agape love” to take part.

Let Those In Sin Not Despair, Let Those in Virtue Not Slumber
This week our readings come from Ezekiel 18 and Matthew 21:23-32. At the first reading these may seem like very different passages, however, together they present both a promise of grace and a challenge to faithfulness. By challenging the ancient Israelite proverb, “The parents eat sour grapes and the children’s teeth are set on edge,” Ezekiel is declaring a reality of mercy and love to all who repent. No one is fatally stuck in their current of exile and sin. To the Sadducees, Jesus challenges the ways the religious leaders for how they are not bearing fruits of virtue and righteousness. In fact, “the prostitutes and the tax collectors are entering the Kingdom ahead of them.” With our gracious God, there is always mercy and yet we must press on toward the heavenly kingdom. In the words of John Chrysostom, “Let no one in vice despair, and let no one in virtue slumber.”
