Episode 71: Seducing and Killing Nazis

This week, we kick things off with a catch-up as always: featuring Dani’s recent vacation and a snorkeling experience that didn’t exactly go as planned (huge understatement). Then we dive into the story behind the novel Seducing and Killing Nazis, exploring the real-life women who used charm, courage, and deception to fight back during one of history’s darkest times. It’s equal parts chaos, history, and women who refused to play by the rules. Episode 70: Las Poquianchis

This week's episode opens with our usual chaotic banter, but be prepared for it to be a little extra unhinged. Dani is battling brutal allergies and is fully spiraling. She's in a very dark mental place, which means the jokes are coming fast and possibly a little too unfiltered. Just to be clear: the humor is a coping mechanism, not a lack of empathy. Once we get it together, we dive into one of the most disturbing cases we've covered: Las Poquianchis. This group of sisters operated a network of brothels in the mid-20th century Mexico that concealed a horrifying reality of exploitation, abuse, and murder. Dani and Gabe break down how the operation started, grew, continued for so long, and the devastating toll it had on the victims. From chaotic coping to a dark story.. listener discretion is advised. […] Yeah, yeah, yeah. So that's kind of where she is right now. Now we're going to pause and then move on to the sisters. So Truss Overstegen was born August 29th, 1923, and her sister, Freddie, was born September 6th, 1925. The family was very interesting. So they'd travel around a lot wherever the wind blew them and they'd stay in random places like a houseboat, a horse wagon. They would squat in an empty building. And it wasn't necessarily by choice. It seems like the husband, Jacob, did not really take responsibility and he couldn't hold a job. So in 1933, the parents actually got divorced, and that was rare back then, super rare. […]
