Hey, I’m Elija Kirby. After spending years playing in garage bands and podcasting, I decided to start a new show where I talk with people about their first car. A podcast all about the vehicle that started it all: the first ride that got us on the road and set the course for the adventures that followed. Each episode, I sit down with friends, fellow musicians, and guests from all walks of life to talk about their first car. From a beat-up hand-me-down to a shiny new dream car, I want to hear the stories, the memories, and the lessons that came with that first set of wheels. That first car is never just a car.... it’s a rite of passage, a symbol of freedom, and usually, a little bit of chaos.

Toxic Shock Syndrome
I hung out with Noah Schafer and Tom Hill from our old crust punk band Toxic Shock Syndrome for a conversation we recorded back in February. We spent some time remembering our former vocalist Josh Nordwall who passed away in 2006. I know we mentioned he was maybe 6'4" but no the dude was a towering 6' 7"! We look back on the early days of our first band Sugar & Spikes, how TSS got its start, share a few stories from the road, and revisit some of the chaotic dumb shenanigans that happened along the way. The reunion show for Toxic Shock Syndrome will be on August 15th at The Eclipse in Bismarck,ND as part of the Hardcore Homecoming Fest. Have a memorable first car story or just want to reach out for more info? I'd love to hear from you! Email me at saveourscene@live.com

The Vexed
I'm joined by Adam Abrahamson and Tayler Billings for a deepish dive into the history of punk 'n' roll shit stirrers The Vexed. We revisit the band's early days, some favorite memories, and the loss of our brother and badass drummer Jason Bertsch who unexpectedly passed away last fall. Catch The Vexed reunion show with us, Tom Hill on percussion, and a Butt-Rock Robot on August 15th at The Eclipse as part of Hardcore Homecoming Fest. Have a memorable first car story or just want to reach out for more info? I'd love to hear from you! Email me at saveourscene@live.com

Face The Music
This week I chill with Casey Graff, drummer for Vendetta Spoken. We cruise back to his first ride a 91 Oldsmobile Achieva and his days as a wild punk kid growing up in Northern Minnesota. Casey opens up about dealing with anxiety and stage fright, how he first fell in love with drumming, and rejoining Vendetta Spoken to record a brand new EP after a 10 year hiatus. We reminisce about simpler times, dive into the lasting value of physical media, and our dependence on electronic devices.
