Stop Colouring, Start Controlling, with Mark Alston
‘Just copy the controls from the last one.’ If that's how your risk assessments go, you're colouring in, not controlling. In this episode, Mark Alston of Investigations Differently explains why so many risk assessments reduce no risk at all.
Mark shares five practical shifts: understanding that risk is the effect of uncertainty (what you don't know), involving the people who do the work, assessing credible scenarios, being honest about control effectiveness, and ditching the tool-worship. He also explains why a risk assessment done after the decision is really just a permission slip, and why writing one from your desk is now a legal risk.
