Originally perched on a hill, the first dwelling was swept away when the railway arrived to haul limestone from the nearby quarries. In its place, further from the tracks, a new home rose in the 1870s. It was called Hill View,until the stories took hold and the village simply knew it as the Ghost House.
From a retired lighthouse keeper who swore he’d watched a woman in a riding habit ride across the grounds, to later residents who encountered her on the stairs in broad daylight, the house earned a reputation that still lingersin local memory.
This is the story of Hill View, the house that earned the name that the locals renamed it as the Ghost House.
