Episode 10 – Theological frameworks – Dispensational theology Part 2 – Two peoples of God Part 2
In this episode we continue with our theological frameworks theme, looking in depth at dispensational theology.
We circle back and take a deeper look at the claim that God has two peoples.
We identify that there are 5 markers that define Old Testament Israel (Thanks to N.T. Wright for pointing this out). They are
Abraham
Circumcision
The Temple
The Law
The land
We looked at Abraham in the last episode.
In this episode we examine circumcision, temple & law and how the apostle Paul applies each of these identifying markers to the Church through faith in the crucified Messiah - Jesus.
In this episode we continue with our theological frameworks theme, looking in depth at dispensational theology and in particular the claim that God has two peoples.
Dispensational theology, according to the Schofield reference Bible, has 7 dispensations. They are:
Dispensation of innocence – Genesis 1 & 2
Dispensation of conscience – Genesis 3 to Genesis 8
Dispensation of government – Genesis 8 to Genesis 11
Dispensation of promise – Genesis 12 to Exodus 19
Dispensation of law – Exodus 19 to Acts 2 (and then this dispensation is put on pause)
Dispensation of grace – Acts 2 to Just before Revelation4. During the dispensation of grace at some point a rapture will happen which will usher in the final dispensation. At present, according to dispensational theology, the rapture is in our future. Revelation 4to Revelation 20 is the great tribulation
Dispensation of kingdom – Revelation 20 - the Millennial Kingdom of Christ for 1000 years.
The dispensation of law recommences. Israel rules with Jesus and the Church is in heaven
After this there is a final battle and then judgement.
After that, the age to come commences.
