Taylor Heinicke, Old Dominion University legend and Former Commanders QB; retirement and legacy
Taylor Heinicke lived out the ultimate football underdog story. Having not received a single Division I offer out of high school in Georgia, Heinicke made his way to Old Dominion University, where he re-wrote the passing record book. The starting quarterback at ODU from 2012 to 2014, Heinicke was named the Walter Payton Award winner as the best player in all of FCS. In 2015, he signed an undrafted free-agent contract with the Minnesota Vikings. After backup roles with the Vikings, the Carolina Panthers, the New England Patriots, and the Houston Texans, and a non-playing stint with the St. Louis Battlehawks of the XFL, it seemed as though Heinicke's football journey was all but over. Fate and the COVID-plagued 2020 season landed Heinicke with the Washington Commanders, where he nearly changed the course of NFL history. In this episode of N.E. Time, Taylor joins Nathan Epstein to discuss his memorable 2020 Wild Card matchup against Tom Brady and the eventual Super Bowl Champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday Night Football, the game that landed him an contract extension and a starting roll with the Commanders, the honor of having his jersey retired by ODU, his favorite underdog sports movie, and much more.

2-time World Series Champion Daniel Hudson on closing out titles, playing with Ohtani, MLB's future
Daniel Hudson has twice reached the peak of Major League Baseball's mountaintop. In 2019, the Virginia Beach native threw the last pitch to clinch the Washington Nationals' seven-game World Series title over the Houston Astros. Then in 2024, he took the mound and helped power the Los Angeles Dodgers past the New York Yankees in their first of back-to-back World Series championships before announcing his retirement. Hudson was recently inducted into the Old Dominion University Athletics Hall of Fame. In this episode of N.E. Time with Nathan Epstein, Daniel shares what it's like to throw the final pitch and close out a World Series championship, why his Dodgers teammate Shohei Ohtani can make a case for greatest player of all time, what life has been like after baseball, winning a title alongside fellow Virginia Beach native Ryan Zimmerman, and Major League Baseball's grim outlook in 2027.
