Nafi’u Usman Ibrahim was born in Bauchi, Nigeria, in Sha’aban 1406 Hijra, equivalent to April 1986. He began attending Madrasatul Tahfizul Qur’an Doya in 1990, followed by another School of Tahfiz called Karofi in 1994. His educational journey continued at Mu’assasa Qur’anic School Jos from 1999 to 2004, and he pursued further studies at the School for Higher Islamic Studies from 2004 to 2007.
Nafi’u’s academic pursuits extended to JIBWIS Islamic Science Day Secondary School from 2004 to 2009, followed by the University of Abuja from 2009 to 2015, where he studied Microbiology. In the service year 2015/2016, he served in Jega, Kebbi state. He also pursued studies in Medical Laboratory Science at Maryam Abacha American University Maradi, Niger Republic, from 2019 to 2021.
At the age of 16 in 2002, Nafi’u memorized the Holy Quran. He embarked on his journey in Qur’anic recitation competitions in 1992, representing Bauchi State multiple times in the JIBWIS National Qur’anic Recitation Competition. Notably, he secured the 1st position in the 10 Hizb category with Tangim in the year 2000 competition held in Gombe. His participation continued in 2002, 2005, 2006, and 2007, earning recognition in various categories in different locations.
A remarkable achievement occurred in Kano, where Nafi’u triumphed in the 60 Hizb with Tajwid category. In 2008, he achieved the overall victory in the 60 Hizb with Tajwid and Tafsir categories during the competition held in Bauchi. His journey expanded globally, participating in Qur’anic recitation competitions in Sudan, Egypt, Russia, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait. A highlight was his overall victory in the 60 Hizb category in 2019, marked by an exceptional achievement.
Nafi’u’s expertise led him to become a judge in Qur’anic recitation competitions. He began at the local level in Bauchi in 2010, progressing to the state level from 2015, and reaching the national level in 2018.
Currently, Nafi’u holds the esteemed position of Deputy Imam at the JIBWIS Central Mosque in Bauchi. His educational journey was enriched by the guidance of distinguished Qur’anic teachers, including Hafiz Muhammad Usman Bauchi, Hafiz Abubakar Muhammad Ribah, Hafiz Abdullahi Musa Galadima, Hafiz Aminu Yusuf Nuhu, Hafiz Abubakar Adam, Hafiz Lawal Sa’id Jahun, Hafiz Abdullahi Baffah Itas, Ustaz Muhammad Haruna Hassan, Ustaz Muhammad Bashir Jos, and many more.
