Naledit 011 | Marriage: Expectations and Reality

Fresno ranks 55th out of 933 metropolitan cities for most marriages-- putting us in the top 10%. Sadly, not everyone stays till death do us part, with many not making it though the stress and strain of COVID-19 and the Stay at Home Order. The U.S. divorce rate has gone up 34% when compared to last year and newlyweds, those married in 2019-2020, are no exception, making up nearly 1/3 of all divorces this year (legaltemplates.net).

Our guests today, Ryan and Mattie Borman, were married in 2019 and still envision many more happy years to come. Hosts Caleb and Jasmine recently celebrated their 2 year anniversary, and while none of them are experts, reflecting on their first year of marriage uncovered a few elements in common that have worked well in adjusting to and enjoying married life-- as well as things they hope to continue to work on.

We discuss having reasonable expectations, fighting well, treating each other as friends, challenges and blessings, responding to changes in your partner, and, of course, romance.

This is a great episode for those thinking about marriage, newlyweds, and even mature marriages can have fun reflecting on those early years!

Thank you for listening and if you liked it, please share, subscribe and review! Naledit 010 | Looking, Eventually, for a Life Long Partner

Psychologist Meg Jay says that despite the many depictions of casual dating in our American culture, most of her clients in their late 20s, and especially those in their 30s, desire marriage or a life long partner. She worries that not enough of us know how to prepare for this and argues it significantly impacts one's happiness, more than college major, career choice or where you live.

On the flip side, our guests Jeff and Ashlyn, two singles in their mid-twenties from Clovis, CA, were taught specific rules and steps to take on the path to marriage and experienced first hand this does not always work. The two share their insights and lessons learned from dating and from not dating. We talk about courtship, hook-up culture, dating apps, and how to do singleness well. It's honest, raw and relatable--whether you are currently single or not.

Thank you for listening and if you liked it, please share, subscribe and review!
