Podcast Overview

A secular humanist reporter and an ordained Lutheran Pastor with concerns of "wokeness" distorting the Church and society usually only get together to yell as part of cable news panels. But on Aimless & Nameless, Charley Barley and Pastor Bill achieve the impossible and explore their differences with open minds, honest dialogues, and a common enemy of low quality conservative talk radio. With next to no consideration for the listener's time, Charley and Bill talk about everything from religion, to rural communities' hollowing out, and men having periods; Trust us--it's better without a name.

Rear View Glory Days (And More!)

Charley Barley and Pastor Bill cover a wide range of topics without one mention of Star Wars. Sadness over cultural death, stagnated war opposition and (perhaps) distorted value sets continue to be a theme, but in defiance of all expectations the pair manage to recognize oppression, wonder if it can be commodified, explore first-hand history, and come to the conclusion that Bernie Sanders is today's Martin Luther while American religion is far from either.

Stars, Stripes, and Star Wars

In this episode Charley Barley and Pastor Bill discuss Star Wars Episode IX: Rise of Skywalker and the broader social implications of the franchise as it relates to commentary on the 21st Century American political experience. Things get a little pessimistic but as always, our trusty duo manages to stumble into entertaining territory.

Dark And White: The Soul of John Muir

Though the fourth of Charley and Pastor Bill's recordings, this is the DEBUT of their conversational walk in the woods. Unfortunately, it deals with an ugly subject--John Muir.

John is a regional conservative talk personality for the Green Bay and Wausau media markets, broadcast by MIdwest Communications and its affiliate stations. His rhetorical brand is the same absolutism as Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh but without any charisma or understanding of the topics he chooses to flesh out. Most of his content, in Charley's view anyway, is relatively harmless despite its offensive tribalism and is typically a good resource to feel better about his own mental faculties and ability to reason.

John's hot take on news that George Zimmerman was suing the family of the 17-year-boy of whose murder he was acquitted on Florida's Stand Your Ground laws on the premise that their public sentiments have been libelous was somewhat shocking and beyond the pale even for the dullest and least entertaining voice in small market radio today. Shocking not due to its insight or willful ignorance, but for how loud John says what the black belts of his profession know to say quietly.

John's empty personality and wit will likely be recurring subject matter for Charley and Pastor Bill, but we're all hoping he will improve enough to stave off Pastor Bill calling him a douche for at least 15 minutes. Charley and Pastor Bill by no means claim and in fact by all means renounce ownership of this content. whose proprietors are Midwest Communications, John Muir, and The John Muir Show. You can find John's content here: https://wtaq.com/shows/show/the-john-muir-show/

Onward, to the next unknown destination.
