The Untold Story of UK Anime | Jerome Mazandarani | Nani Talks | Episode 16
How did Naruto reach the UK? Jerome Mazandarani was the person who licensed it along with a great team under Manga Entertainment from TV Tokyo. For our Season 1 finale, he sits down with us to tell that story and trace the road to Manga Entertainment, from Akira's run at the ICA to the DVDs that introduced a generation of British fans to anime.
We get into the five year pursuit of Dragon Ball Z, the days of LimeWire and early MCM London Comic Con, and Jerome's work on Cannon Busters and In This Corner of the World. He also takes us back to the shows he watched growing up, including Kimba and Robotech.
Then we ask what happens when hundreds of anime arrive each year but only a handful get a real push. Who gets to build a relationship with fans: the platform carrying a show, or the people who made it? The conversation moves from Crunchyroll to creators building anime in Singapore, Paris and Trinidad.
Finally, TC, Slick, The Quantum and the crew put four original anime in front of Jerome for the Greenlit Gauntlet. He gives each pitch an honest response, then leaves us with the older films he thinks new fans should see. Come for the Naruto story. Stay for the pitches and the watchlist.

The Hunt For Good Anime: What We're Actually Watching | Joe Grind | Nani Talks | Episode 15.4
You get on Crunchyroll between simulcasts and there is nothing. So how does anyone find the good stuff?
This week the panel opens up the watchlist. Prison School, Dorohedoro, To Be Hero X, More Than a Married Couple But Not Lovers, Cosmic Princess Kaguya, Nippon Sengoku, Sentenced to Be a Hero, Digimon Beatbreak, Hell's Paradise, The 100 Girlfriends, Witch Hat Atelier and a Chinese donghua with six seasons that nobody else in the room had clocked. Joe Grind of Joey's Fun House is in the chair for it.
It turns into two other things on the way. The first is anime and parenting: five written comprehension questions after Dragon Ball, a six year old who worked out that Char Aznable is misunderstood, and a son who explained Yu Gi Oh Zexal so well his dad went back and watched the rest of the episode. The second is the Big Three, and whether Dragon Ball belongs in it. It does not, and the reason why is the best two minutes in the segment. We finish on anime in the cinema versus anime at home. The only anime podcast from the culture.

Can You Name The Anime From Just The Colourway? | Joe Grind | Nani Talks | Episode 15.3

This week the panel splits into two teams and plays Guess the Anime Colour Way. Blackstar puts a
colour palette on screen, no faces and no titles, and the first team to buzz in and name the
character or the show takes the point. JR and Slick against Tunes and Joe Grind of Joey's Fun
House. What starts as a clean quiz falls apart inside two minutes: VAR gets called, the rules get
rewritten twice, and the man holding the board gets accused of corruption more than once.
