A national struggle has been waging in Maldives since my adulthood. Salafi conservatives on one side and extreme liberals on the other side has torn the social and moral fabric of a deeply cultured historical society in the name of democracy and human rights. Real issues such as education, healthcare, social housing, food security, employment and public services such as roads and transport are all struggling.
