[…] So I can see why that would have appeal once people were introduced to this story. But there are three key themes that I think are vitally important to the overall story of the Negro Leagues. And this is really off the field. First, the importance of economic empowerment. How do you invoke change? It is done economically. And the Negro Leagues were an economic engine in its heyday. Second is an unprecedented level of leadership that was emerging in the African-American community as these teams were being built by businessmen, primarily black businessmen and women around this country. And then thirdly, but just as important, the social advancement of America as Jackie Robinson was handpicked. from the great Kansas City monarchs to be the chosen one to break Major League Baseball's six decade long self-imposed color barrier.
