The Life We Receive (Romans Part 2) Two Representatives
Every person is born into a broken world through Adam, inheriting the consequences of his sin whether we chose it or not. Romans 5 reveals that this is not the end of the story. God provided a second representative, Jesus Christ, whose perfect obedience and sacrificial death made a way out of the condemnation we inherited. The same principle that connected us to Adam's failure is the very principle that connects us to Christ's righteousness. Jesus did not simply cancel out what Adam did. He went far beyond it, offering grace that overflows, justification that covers every trespass, and a life where we reign with Him rather than under the power of death. There are only two options: in Adam or in Christ. This is not a matter of behavior but of identity, and it changes everything.

The Gospel We Need (Romans Part 1) - Don’t Stop Believing
What does it mean to be justified by faith? Romans 4 uses the lives of Abraham and David to show that our standing before God has never been based on what we do, but on what we believe. Abraham was counted righteous before he was even circumcised, and David wrote of the blessing of having sins forgiven apart from any earned merit. These two heroes of the Jewish faith point to the same timeless truth: we are made right before God through faith alone. Just as God brought life from Abraham and Sarah's bodies when all hope seemed gone, He is still in the business of calling things into existence where there was nothing before. Faith is not the absence of doubt or difficulty. It is choosing to keep believing in the God who gives life to the dead.

The Gospel We Need (Romans Part 1) - Righteous Because of Jesus
Many of us approach God like a job application, hoping our good deeds are enough to earn His approval. Romans 3 dismantles that idea entirely. Righteousness before God is not earned through effort or religious performance. It comes freely, through faith in Jesus Christ, whose blood serves as the final and complete covering for sin. Because none of us can meet the standard of God's holiness on our own, the gospel levels the playing field for everyone. Our standing with God rests entirely on what Christ has already accomplished, not on what we bring to the table. That means we can stop performing and start resting in His finished work.
