It's because this fixation on lethality, Schroden writes, is grounded in achieving destruction of physical systems, but human networks operate differently. He concludes that the lesson that U.S. leaders should learn from our experience in the past 25 years is that dogged pursuit of overwhelming attrition is not a reliable pathway to success, and blind faith in lethality is strategic folly.
