We Drafted the Perfect Dad Traits… Who Won? #draft #dad

f you could give your children only FIVE traits to help them succeed in life, what would you choose? Faith? Discipline? Integrity? Patience? Financial wisdom? The answers might reveal more about you as a parent than you think. In this episode of the New Dad Order Podcast, Ray and Parfait go head-to-head in a fatherhood trait draft, choosing the five qualities they'd most want to pass down to their children. But there's a catch: once a trait is drafted, it's off the board! What starts as a fun competition turns into a deeper conversation about raising good kids, teaching life lessons, Christian parenting, fatherhood, personal growth, and building strong families.Ray and Parfait debate whether faith or discipline should come first, why patience and reliability matter, and how storytelling, curiosity, physical fitness, and financial responsibility can shape a child's future. They also share personal experiences about coaching youth sports, raising children at different stages of life, learning from their own weaknesses, and recognizing the qualities they wish they'd developed sooner.THE FIVE-ROUND DAD TRAIT DRAFT:🏆 Round 1 — Franchise Traits: Faith, Discipline, Integrity🤝 Round 2 — Ideal Traits: Patience, Leadership, Reliability🧠 Round 3 — Personality Traits: Sense of Humor, Storytelling, Curiosity💪 Round 4 — Lifestyle Traits: Physical Fitness, Financial Wisdom, Spontaneity🔧 Round 5 — Dad Superpowers: Master Chef, Mr. Fix-It, Strongest DadWHO DRAFTED THE BETTER TEAM?RAY: Faith, Patience, Storytelling Ability, Financial Wisdom, Strongest Dad.PARFAIT: Discipline, Reliability, Curiosity, Physical Fitness, Mr. Fix-It.Now it's your turn!👇 COMMENT BELOW: TEAM RAY or TEAM PARFAIT?And tell us which ONE trait you'd absolutely refuse to leave off your own draft board. At New Dad Order, we're two fathers sharing honest conversations about faith, discipline, marriage, parenting, youth sports, and the everyday challenges of raising the next generation. Are You Actually Smart… Or Just Confident? #smart #confidence

What if the thing making you feel intelligent is actually keeping you from getting smarter? And how do we raise kids who are confident enough to lead—but humble enough to admit when they're wrong? In this episode of the New Dad Order Podcast, Ray and Parfait get into a conversation about intelligence, confidence, experience, wisdom, self-awareness, parenting, discipline, and learning how to admit when you're wrong. It starts with a simple question:How smart do you actually think you are? That leads to an even better debate. If you could only choose one—experience, confidence, or education—which would you take?Ray chooses confidence.Parfait isn't so sure.Because confidence can help someone walk into a room, take chances, communicate and lead. But confidence without self-awareness can also convince somebody that they're right when they're completely wrong. And that's where the conversation gets interesting. How many times have we argued with someone who speaks with absolute confidence—but doesn't actually know what they're talking about?More importantly:How many times have WE been that person?Ray and Parfait talk about being humbled by people who knew more than they did, political arguments and social-media echo chambers, learning to listen, recognizing when someone else has better information, and why intelligence isn't simply about being the smartest person in the room. The conversation eventually comes back to fatherhood. How do we raise children with confidence without creating arrogance? How do we give them experience while allowing them to fail? How do we teach them to think instead of simply telling them what to think?Ray and Parfait also get personal about discipline, spanking, mistakes they've made as fathers, things they planned to do differently as parents, and what age and experience have taught them about raising children. The episode begins with a discussion of self-control and biblical wisdom, including the reminder that real growth requires control over what we think, say and do.Maybe intelligence isn't knowing everything.Maybe wisdom is having enough confidence to speak—and enough humility to realize you could be wrong.👇 JOIN THE CONVERSATIONIf you could only choose ONE:Confidence, Education, or Experience?Tell us which one you're choosing and WHY in the comments.Subscribe to the New Dad Order Podcast for conversations about fatherhood, faith, marriage, youth sports, discipline, leadership and raising the next generation.✦ Sponsored ByBurns Estate Planning & Wealth AdvisorsPresident & CEO: Ernie M. Faith, Discipline & Fatherhood: Raising Kids Who Know Their Worth! #faith #discipline

What does it take to raise successful children without making their success the center of your family?Marshall Graves helped raise three Division I athletes—including 2026 NBA first-round draft pick Allen Graves—but his biggest lessons have very little to do with basketball. They’re about FAITH, FATHERHOOD, DISCIPLINE, FAMILY, and learning when your child needs to be pushed…and when Dad needs to back off.In this episode of the New Dad Order Podcast, Ray and Parfait sit down with Marshall Graves: husband, father of three, grandfather, business owner, longtime school bus driver, community leader, and founder of Love Is the Key Community Outreach.Marshall opens up about raising highly competitive children, the mistakes he made as a young father, and the moment his wife challenged him not to repeat the patterns of the past. That conversation changed the way he approached fatherhood.Instead of simply demanding more from his children, Marshall learned to listen.Instead of making every bad game a lecture, he learned to ask, “How do you feel about that?” Instead of measuring everything by points, wins, rankings, stars, or scholarships, the focus became EFFORT, ATTITUDE, PREPARATION—and then moving on to the next game. The Graves family’s basketball story is remarkable. Marshall discusses the different personalities of his children, the competitive environment they created at home, the lessons he learned from AAU basketball and recruiting, and Allen Graves’ journey from an overlooked high school prospect to Santa Clara, accepting a role off the bench, becoming Sixth Man of the Year, reaching the NCAA Tournament, and ultimately becoming a first-round NBA Draft pick.Marshall talks about building a personal relationship with God instead of simply “going to church,” surrendering control as a father, balancing business and family, allowing children to respectfully express themselves, teaching kids to know their worth, and creating a home where siblings compete with each other without rooting against each other. We also dive into Marshall’s decades of work through Love Is the Key Community Outreach, where he has mentored young people from different backgrounds and circumstances. And for sports parents, Marshall answers one of the hardest questions we face:When should you push your child—and when should you back off?His answer may completely change the way you handle the ride home after the next practice, game, tournament, bad performance, or tough loss. It's about raising children who know who they are when basketball, football, baseball, scholarships, rankings, trophies, money, and applause are taken away.Welcome to the New Dad Order. To contact Marshall Graves:loveisthekeyoutreach@gmail.comfacebook-Love Is The Key - Community Outreach Instagram-https://www.instagram.com/loveisthekeyoutreach?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet&stkn=ZDNlZDc0MzIxNw==Graceful Grains-graceful-grains.square.site✦ Sponsored ByBurns Estate Planning & Wealth AdvisorsPresident & CEO: Ernie M.
