[…] There's a lot of people, and it was very shocking at the time, and they were very open, ICE was. They were very open about that this was kind of retaliation because in the 2018 midterms, all of North Carolina's most populated counties had elected progressive black sheriffs, and those sheriffs had ended their ICE collaboration agreements. And so... Basically, ICE was making the argument that these progressive black sheriffs were letting dangerous criminals out onto the streets. And so ICE had to come in to North Carolina directly and do their job for them. These are elected officials. People voted for them knowing this. […]
