E29 Finding Light and Hope in the Mess with Dani Sumner

✨Today on the New Human Podcast we welcome special guest Dani Sumner. Dani Sumner shares her story of recovery and authenticity. Life often feels like a chaotic journey, and in this episode, Dani Sumner opens up about her own path through the mess. With an honest approach, she shares how her podcast, A Holy Mess, serves not just as a platform for her voice but as a therapeutic space for both her and her listeners. Embracing Vulnerability Dani’s journey is one of resilience. As a recovering alcoholic nearing sixteen years of sobriety, she reflects on the challenges she faced in her early podcasting days. "I wanted it to be perfect, and I had scripts and outlines. Then I just tore it up and decided to share from my heart,” she reveals. This shift from perfectionism to authenticity marked a turning point in her podcasting experience. "I thrive being honest and authentic now because I lived in the shadows for so long." Dani emphasizes the importance of authenticity, explaining that she allows herself to be vulnerable to help others. Her podcast is not just a tell-all; it’s a carefully curated space where she shares what feels appropriate while maintaining her boundaries. The Journey of Awakening The conversation delves into what it means to wake up from a life of complacency. Dani notes that many listeners may be on their own journey of self-discovery, stating, "If you're listening to our podcasts, you're probably waking up." Recognizing the signs of living on "cruise control" can be challenging. "You have to get honest with yourself. Who are you? Who do you want to be?" she urges, reminding us that it’s never too late to make a change. The journey of healing and transformation is ongoing, and Dani’s story is a testament to that. Finding Support Dani shares that during her darkest times, the support of her mentors was invaluable. "I had two phenomenal human beings walking with me... they kept the eye on the ball and helped me work through the crap I had to work through," she says. It’s a reminder that seeking connection and support is crucial, especially when navigating the complexities of life. As she reflects on her journey, Dani acknowledges the ongoing nature of healing. "I’m still waking up from some stuff, but I’m grateful I chose life. Grace of God," she concludes. For more insights and personal stories, tune into the full episode of A Holy Mess with Dani Sumner.
