Ever moved abroad and realised no one warns you about the loneliness, the identity shift, or how hard it is to start from zero again?
New Roots Squad is a podcast for women building a life away from home and figuring it out as they go.
We talk openly about the things no one puts on their relocation checklist. Making friends as an adult, navigating careers in a new country, growing into yourself, and learning how to feel at home when everything is unfamiliar.
In each episode, we share:
🌱 Honest stories and lessons from living abroad
🌱 Practical advice for friendships, work, and personal gr
Last week, we talked about motivation and discipline. In this solo episode, Adrienne wanted to go one step deeper.
What if it’s not about being more disciplined or having stronger willpower?
Sometimes we believe we are stuck because we are not motivated enough. But long-term behavior change might actually depend more on the systems we build, the environment we are in, and how easy or hard we make things for ourselves.
In this episode, we talk about why motivation naturally fades, why willpower is not a sustainable strategy, and how small structural changes in your life can sometimes matter more than trying to be “stronger” every day.
If you’ve ever felt like you are trying very hard but not moving forward, this episode is for you.

It's about the journey, not the destination
In this episode, we explore hedonic vs. eudaimonic happiness and ask the real question: are we running away, or moving on? Building on our previous episode, we reflect on our personal view on happiness and why the journey still matters — even when it’s uncomfortable.

Are we staying in Berlin forever?
In this episode, we talk honestly about living in Berlin as foreigners and whether this city feels like home or just a chapter.
As a Japanese and South African expat, we reflect on the challenges of living abroad, expectations we place on ourselves, and the pressure to have life figured out while navigating expat life in Germany.
We also check in on our personal growth goals for the year, from fitness and health habits to learning German as an adult, sharing what’s working, what’s not, and how we stay motivated.
If you’re interested in internationals in Berlin, lifestyle self-help, goal setting, and finding your place abroad, this episode is for you.
