Tonight, sit with Jesus in Matthew chapter 11.
From a prison cell, John the Baptist sends a question: "Are you the one who is to come?" Jesus answers with what the people can see for themselves, honours John before the crowds, grieves over the towns that would not turn back, thanks his Father for revealing these things to little children, and closes with some of the gentlest words ever spoken: "Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."
This is part of New Testament, Narrated by Jesus, our evening series on Your Gentle Kingdom. Every evening we walk through one full chapter, told by Jesus in his own voice for the Gospels and Acts, and read aloud by him for the letters. Every morning we share a short reflection in our Shorts.

Matthew 10, Jesus Sends Out the Twelve
Tonight, Matthew chapter 10. Jesus calls his twelve disciples, gives them authority to heal and to drive out unclean spirits, and sends them out with empty hands to the lost sheep of Israel, warning them of hard days ahead and promising that not even a cup of cold water given in his name will be forgotten.
In this episode Jesus remembers the day he sent his friends out. He names each of the twelve, tells them to take no gold, no bag and no second tunic, and prepares them for councils, governors and even their own families turning against them. And in the middle of it all he says: do not be afraid. Not one sparrow falls to the ground apart from your Father, and you are worth more than many sparrows.

Matthew 7: The Narrow Gate and the House on the Rock
Tonight we come to Matthew, chapter seven, the last words of the sermon on the hillside.
The crowd has been sitting in the grass a long while, and now Jesus turns to the hardest part of all: not what you do with God, but what you do with each other. Do not judge. Take the plank out of your own eye. Ask, and it will be given to you. Do to others what you would have them do to you. Enter through the narrow gate. Know the false prophets by their fruit. And then the last picture of the whole sermon, two men, two houses, one storm.
Chapter summary: In the closing section of the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus warns against hypocritical judging, urges persistent prayer, gives the golden rule, calls people to the narrow gate, warns about false prophets known by their fruit, and ends with the parable of the two builders, leaving the crowds amazed at his authority.
This is THE SHEPHERD, our evening long-form series: one full New Testament chapter every night, told in Jesus's own voice, over a slow illustrated journey through the world he walked.
🌙 Tomorrow evening: Matthew 8.
If these evenings are becoming part of how you end your day, subscribe and turn on the bell so the next chapter finds you. Light a lamp, put the day down, and let the words do their quiet work.

Matthew 6: Giving, Prayer, and the Cure for Worry
Tonight, rest in Matthew chapter 6.
On the hillside above the lake, Jesus teaches that giving, prayer, and fasting belong to the Father who sees in secret, gives his disciples the Lord's Prayer, and then calls them away from storing up earthly treasure and from anxious worry, pointing to the birds of the air and the wildflowers of the field, and telling them to seek first the kingdom of God.
This is the New Testament, narrated by Jesus, one full chapter every evening, told as if he were remembering and retelling it himself, over cinematic illustration. Let the day go. Let the words rest on you before you sleep.
⏱ Tonight's chapter: Matthew 6
🌙 Tomorrow evening: Matthew 7
