Bond screen tests reportedly set for London, with Callum Turner among candidates
The hunt for the next James Bond might be approaching its end. According to *The Hollywood Reporter* and *Variety*, citing several sources, a limited number of actors will participate in screen tests for the role in London this weekend. Among those said to be involved are Callum Turner and Jack Lowden, recognized for their work on “Slow Horses.” The trials reportedly assess stunts, acting ability in front of the camera, and delivery of lines. There is some variation in reports about how many candidates are in the running, with numbers ranging from three to five. *The Hollywood Reporter* clarifies that Jack O’Connell and Jacob Elordi are not among those testing, contrary to earlier rumors. The position has been open since Daniel Craig’s last appearance as Bond in “No Time to Die,” which was released in 2021.
Amazon MGM Studios has not issued a confirmation or denial regarding the rumors. The company directed The Hollywood Reporter to an earlier message stating that the casting process is ongoing and that it will refrain from discussing specific actor details. Denis Villeneuve is scheduled to helm the upcoming movie, with “Peaky Blinders” scribe Steven Knight penning the screenplay. Villeneuve mentioned that the opportunity to direct a Bond film was a key factor in his decision to step away from the “Dune” series. It is said the release remains targeted for 2028. The most recent full-screen audition for Bond took place over 20 years ago; Henry Cavill was reportedly among the final candidates before Daniel Craig secured the part.

China’s Q3 GDP growth beats forecasts as exports bolster economy
China’s economy grew 4.5% year over year in the third quarter, from July through September, according to the National Bureau of Statistics. The figure beat economists’ forecasts and was up from 4.3% growth in the second quarter. Growth in the first nine months reached 4.6%, putting the country on track to meet the government’s full-year target of 4.5% to 5%, without additional stimulus measures. Industrial production rose 5.5% in September, compared with 5.2% in August. Retail sales increased 1.1%, up from 0.4%.
Duncan Wrigley, chief China-plus economist at Pantheon Macroeconomics, said policymakers in Beijing were likely to see their efforts to stabilise growth in the third quarter as successful. He said manufacturing output grew 6.0% year over year in September, supported by stronger export demand for electronics, artificial-intelligence-related equipment and autos. But fixed-asset investment fell 7.2% over the first nine months, property investment dropped 20.6%, and infrastructure spending remained weak. ABN Amro analysts said stronger exports linked to the global artificial-intelligence and technology boom had driven the pickup in growth, more than offsetting the effects of the Iran conflict and weak domestic demand.

UK approves gas production at Jackdaw North Sea field
UK Energy Secretary Miatta Fahnbulleh has given the green light for gas extraction to begin at the Jackdaw site in the North Sea. In a statement, Prime Minister Andy Burnham noted that the gas from this area will supply warmth to homes and energy to businesses during the upcoming winter season. He added that it would boost the nation's gas output by approximately six percent, help secure the UK’s energy needs for over ten years, preserve hundreds of employment opportunities in Scotland, and contribute nearly three billion pounds to the economy throughout the project’s duration.
Burnham stated the choice would not affect the government’s pledge to grant no additional oil or gas exploration permits in the North Sea and achieve net zero by 2050. He also introduced an energy wealth fund, starting with two billion pounds, aimed at channeling upcoming North Sea oil and gas tax income into renewable-energy initiatives. Burnham added that the administration would look into eliminating fixed charges from gas bills as soon as possible. He contended that aiding the oil and gas sector currently could coexist with growing clean-energy sectors and enhancing energy security.
